Job Description

Job Summary R&M is seeking an experienced Excavation & Grading Laborer to join our growing field team. This position is ideal for someone with approximately 3-5 years of hands-on sitework experience who understands excavation and grading operations and is looking for an opportunity to continue developing their skills and responsibilities. Our work primarily supports residential land development , including site preparation, mass and fine grading, excavation, drainage, trenching, and related earthwork activities. This is a hands-on field position. The right candidate should be comfortable working around heavy equipment, performing physical labor, assisting operators, checking grades, maintaining a clean and safe jobsite, and stepping into equipment operation when qualified. Duties & Responsibilities Perform general excavation, grading, and earthwork labor on residential development projects. Assist with site preparation, clearing, grubbing, excavation, backfill, compaction, and rough and fine grading activities. Assist equipment operators with excavation and grading operations, including spotting equipment and maintaining safe working areas. Operate excavators, loaders, skid steers, compactors, water trucks, and similar construction equipment when trained and authorized. Assist with trenching, drainage, stormwater, and underground utility-related excavation. Check and maintain grade using grade stakes, elevations, lasers, and other basic grade-control methods as directed. Install and maintain erosion and sediment control measures as required. Perform handwork around structures, utilities, drainage systems, and areas inaccessible to larger equipment. Assist with placement, spreading, grading, and compaction of soil, aggregate, and other site materials. Perform daily equipment inspections and identify maintenance or safety concerns before operation. Assist with basic equipment maintenance, fueling, greasing, cleaning, and upkeep. Load, unload, move, and organize construction materials, tools, and equipment. Maintain clean, organized, and safe jobsites throughout the workday. Follow company safety procedures, Daily JHAs, equipment requirements, and excavation/trenching safety practices. Communicate effectively with the Superintendent, equipment operators, and other crew members. Be willing to perform both equipment-related and physical labor tasks as project conditions require. Support the crew in completing work safely, accurately, and on schedule. Qualifications 3-5 years of excavation, grading, sitework, or related heavy civil construction experience preferred. Previous experience working on residential development, earthwork, or underground utility projects strongly preferred. Working knowledge of excavation, backfill, compaction, rough grading, and fine grading operations. Ability to understand basic grade stakes, elevations, slopes, and site plans is preferred. Experience operating excavators, skid steers, loaders, compactors, water trucks, or similar equipment is preferred. Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to perform routine equipment inspections and maintenance. Understanding of safe work practices around heavy equipment, trenches, excavations, and active construction sites. Ability to follow instructions while also recognizing what needs to be done to keep the crew productive. Reliable transportation and consistent attendance required. Valid driver's license required. CDL is a preferred but not required . Must be able to work outdoors in changing weather conditions and perform physically demanding construction work. Must be willing to learn additional equipment, grading, utility, and site-development skills as R&M expands its capabilities.
Pay:
$21.00 - $29.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
