Job Summary The Village of Tremont is seeking a hardworking and versatile individual to join our Public Works team. Candidates must live within a 30 mile radius of Tremont. This dual-role position involves manual labor in maintaining municipal infrastructure and technical responsibilities related to the operation and maintenance of the local water system. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who enjoys working outdoors and serving the community.

Key Responsibilities Infrastructure Maintenance:

Perform manual labor including road repair, pothole filling, snow removal, brush clearing, and mowing.

Water Operations:

Assist in the daily operation of water treatment facilities, monitor pump stations, and conduct routine water quality testing to ensure compliance with Illinois EPA standards.

System Repairs:

Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of water mains, valves, hydrants, and meters.

Equipment Operation:

Safely operate and maintain heavy machinery such as articulating wheel loader, dump trucks, mowers, and power tools.

Emergency Response:

Position is 24/7 on call for water main breaks, storms, or other public works emergencies. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Valid Driver's License with Class B CDL preferred Ability to perform strenuous physical labor in all weather conditions, including lifting up to 50 lbs. Willingness to obtain Class B Water Operator Certification within 24 months of employment. Must be willing to consent to background check prior to hire Preferred Skills Previous experience in construction, plumbing, or municipal public works.
