Job Description
Summary Responsible for cleaning barges and performing general shipyard labor. This position involves physically demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions, operating equipment, handling tools and materials, and assisting with various shipyard operations while following safety procedures. Responsibilities Attend daily safety meetings and travel by vessel to job sites. Prepare equipment for daily operations. Assist crane operators with rigging and moving barge covers and other materials. Inspect work areas and determine the safest and most efficient approach to tasks. Operate heavy equipment, including forklifts and skid steers Remove sludge, mud, and debris from barges using: Drain water from barges using weights and pumping equipment. Transport tools, ladders, pumps, buckets, and other materials throughout the shipyard. Perform additional labor duties assigned by supervisors. Required Skills Ability to work safely in an industrial environment. Comfortable working outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions. Physically capable of lifting, shoveling, climbing, standing, bending, and working for extended periods. Ability to operate or learn to operate heavy equipment. Good teamwork and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience in construction, shipyards, industrial cleaning, heavy equipment, or general labor. Forklift or skid steer experience is a plus. Rigging or crane-assistant experience is beneficial but can often be learned through on-the-job training. Physical Requirements Frequent lifting and carrying of heavy tools and materials. Standing, walking, climbing ladders, bending, kneeling, and shoveling for long periods. Working around water, heavy machinery, mud, and industrial equipment. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Comfortable working outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions. Physically capable of lifting, shoveling, climbing, standing, bending, and working for extended periods. Ability to operate or learn to operate heavy equipment. Overtime Available!
