Please apply for the position directly at www.cityofgaylord.com Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water, sewer, street, and storm drainage facilities and systems and in the performance of snow removal. Employee is supervised by the Superintendent of the Department of Public Works and the Public Works Foreman. 1. Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, gravel, and sand. Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the plowing, hauling and unloading of snow. May be required to drive and operate ariel lift platform machinery. 2. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment. 3. Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use. 4. Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. 5. Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling. 6. Cuts, fits, lays, repairs, taps, cleans and flushes water mains, pipe, gates and fittings on repair of mains and services and installation of services, fire hydrants and drinking fountains; assists in shutting off broken sections of water mains. 7. Operates a variety of lawn care equipment, including but not limited to mowers, tractors, weed whips/trimmers, leaf blowers, and other various pieces of equipment in the maintenance of city parks, green spaces, or parking lots. 8. Operates a variety of snow removal equipment, including driving plows, operating holders, or using snow shovels. 9. Responds to callouts when on call per a rotational call-out schedule. 10. Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in the water, sewer and street department. Serves on various employee or other committees as assigned.
