PT Public Works Laborer City of Normandy

- 19.88 an hour and is expected to work 20-28 hours a week. Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Mow and maintain City owned properties including parks, city facilities, and vacant properties.
- Perform routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment.
- Plant and maintain lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers. Carries out the seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and pest and weed control of the City's Park and open spaces.
- Clean lots and other property of debris.
- Assist with abatement of nuisances, including clearing of debris, overgrown grass, and other nuisances as need.
- Inspect, clean, and perform routine maintenance to park drinking fountains, restrooms and other facilities, sweeps, washes, paints and repairs picnic tables, playground, and other park equipment.
- Open, close, lock and unlock facilities.
- Assist in setting up and taking down equipment for various city programs.
- Install and maintain recreational equipment in park facilities.
- Performs custodial work such as routine cleaning, changing light bulbs, and other basic maintenance at various City facilities.
- Repair, replace, or install concrete and asphalt in city streets and infrastructure.
- Remove leaves from residential homes with a leaf vacuum.
- Repair, replace, or install city street signs.
- Perform building maintenance on city properties.
- Perform street sweeping on city streets.
- Install street pavement marking on city streets.
- Construct, maintain, repair and clean concrete and asphalt streets, drainage structures, curbs, gutters, and related public ways; grades and prepares streets for paving, places, spreads, tamps, and smooth base and surfacing materials; removes trees, stumps and shrubbery on city-owned right-of-way(s); mows weeds, plants trees, shrubbery and grass; spreads salt on streets.
- plow snow during snow and ice combating situations and clears snow and ice from city property.
- picks up dead animals off of street and City owned properties and arranges for their disposal.
- Operate and perform maintenance and minor repairs to a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment such as street rollers, graders, dump trucks, payloaders, asphalt spreaders, street sweeper, tree cutting equipment, chain saws, sandblasters, jackhammers, mechanical painting and welding equipment and other equipment used in street maintenance functions.
- Perform maintenance on City owned streetlights and the replacement of bulbs as necessary using a boom lift.
- Ensure the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking.
- Perform required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including milling and overlaying asphalt streets, removing, and/or constructing concrete and asphalt curb and gutter, removing and replacing concrete streets and sidewalks, pavement cutting, ditch digging, laying, and backfilling.
- Drive trucks of various sizes and weights, assists in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment and materials.
- Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
- Assist in the training of other employees.
- Keep accurate records of work completed.
- Operate and drives heavy machinery and equipment to perform tasks listed above.
- Responds to emergency calls outside of normal working hours for snow removal and other issues as needed.

- Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair of concrete and asphalt streets.
- Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; ability to work safely; ability to understand and carry out instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and public; ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Motorized vehicles and equipment, including dump and pickup trucks and street sweeper, payloader, bobcat, highlift, asphalt spreader, roller, grader. Hand and power tools including jackhammer, chainsaw, shovel, etc. Education and Experience- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- One (1) year of experience in public works, landscaping, or related field
