Job Description

Tamp Grading & Utilities is looking for an experienced and dependable Heavy Equipment Operator / Construction Laborer to join our commercial heavy civil construction crews. This is not an equipment-only position . Approximately 50% of your time will be operating heavy equipment and 50% will be performing construction labor on commercial grading and utility projects. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, understands commercial construction, operates equipment safely and efficiently, and is willing to work as part of the crew when they are not operating a machine. What You'll Do Operate heavy construction equipment including excavators, skid steers, loaders, dozers, and other equipment based on project needs Perform excavation, grading, backfilling, loading, and material handling Assist with installation of storm drainage, water, sewer, and other underground utilities Perform general construction labor when not operating equipment Assist pipe crews with installation and preparation of utilities Set and maintain grades and elevations as directed by the foreman Load and unload materials and equipment Perform site cleanup and maintain a safe, organized work area Work safely around other heavy equipment, trucks, laborers, and underground utilities Follow directions from foremen and superintendents Perform daily equipment inspections and report mechanical or safety issues Work efficiently while maintaining quality and safety standards Required Qualifications Minimum 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment in heavy civil/commercial construction Experience operating excavators, skid steers, loaders, dozers, or similar construction equipment Experience working on commercial sitework, grading, utilities, or other heavy civil projects Ability and willingness to perform manual construction labor approximately 50% of the workday Ability to safely work around heavy equipment and active construction operations Dependable transportation to and from the jobsite Reliable attendance and punctuality Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a crew Strong safety awareness and good work ethic Preferred Experience Storm drainage installation Water and sewer utility installation Commercial grading Pipe installation Fine grading Excavation and backfill Site preparation Experience reading grades/elevations Experience working around underground utilities What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is someone who can operate equipment and work . When the excavator or skid steer isn't needed, we expect our operators to jump in and help the crew. You may be asked to help install pipe, move materials, perform cleanup, assist with excavation, or perform other general construction tasks. If you're looking for a job where you sit in a machine all day, this is not the position for you. Pay:
