Position Overview Performs a variety of manual and unskilled labor work in support of the Authority's water treatment, water distribution, maintenance, construction, and facility operations. Assists with the loading, unloading, lifting, and movement of supplies, materials, furniture, equipment, and debris, as well as general maintenance and repair activities. Under supervision and direction, assists with construction, grounds maintenance, paving, concrete work, snow removal, and other operational activities. May learn to operate construction and maintenance equipment and perform routine repairs to valves, fittings, pipe sections, and other equipment used in the area of assignment. Occasionally operates trucks in connection with assigned laboring duties. Performs other related duties as required. Key Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to: Dig trenches and do manual grading. Cut grass and trim hedges. Load and unload trucks. Shovel snow, gravel, and sand. Mix cement and mortar. Place forms used in concrete work. Perform cold patching. Clean up underbrush, foliage, vines, and weeds. Cut down trees. Learn to operate construction and/or maintenance equipment. May learn to operate a pneumatic drill. May learn to operate and make minor repairs to streets and roads. May rake asphalt mixtures used in paving to proper thickness and grade. May distribute asphalt mixtures to eliminate hollows and high spots in the surface under the construction or repair. May patch joints and edges of pavement with asphalt cement. May tamp and smooth asphalt pavement. Clean sludge beds. Load debris into trucks for removal. Occasionally drive trucks. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the methods, materials and supplies used to perform varied types of manual and unskilled tasks. Ability to perform manual tasks either alone or as a member of agroup. Ability to perform heavy manual labor for prolonged periods of time under varying temperatures and climatic conditions. Ability to follow prescribed instructions. Ability to learn to use the tools and equipment needed to perform the routine, unskilled labor tasks. Ability to follow safety precautions in the operation of assigned tools and equipment. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively as a member of a team. Ability to report to work punctually and be prepared to work as part of a crew. Willingness and ability to work after regular hours, including during emergencies, as needed. Minimum Qualifications Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey.
