Job Description

The Town of Guilderland is accepting applications from candidates interested in applying for the position of seasonal Laborer in the Parks and Recreation Department.
Starting salary:
$16.00/hour based on experience Positions available: Monday - Friday, 40 hours/week Primary duties may include but are not necessarily limited to the following:
  • Performs routine groundskeeping duties to assure proper condition of Town parks;
  • Assists with removing leaves, brush and other debris as needed;
  • Prepares facilities for rentals, events, etc.;
  • Performs a wide variety of manual tasks related to parks construction and maintenance work;
  • Assists with repairs on buildings maintenance tasks;
  • Performs grounds maintenance work such as landscaping, mowing and trimming lawns, lawn repair, trimming trees, and assisting with the removal of trees;
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisors which include trash removal, sweeping, general cleaning of facilities, operating small machinery, maintaining signs, setting up for events, assisting with parking vehicles, etc.;
  • Sweeps walks, mows grass, rakes leaves and removes refuse and paper from park grounds;
  • Assists in cleaning and maintaining swimming pools and related equipment;
  • Repairs, maintains and cleans parks, and prepares athletic fields, equipment and buildings;
  • Patches pavement with asphalt mixture and performs other similar tasks;
  • Mows Town properties;
  • Loads, unloads and lifts materials;
  • Performs heavy manual labor for prolonged periods often under adverse weather conditions;
  • Experience pulling a trailer is a plus;
  • Does related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must possess a valid New York State driver license and maintain a current license with a good driving record for the duration of employment.
