The seasonal laborer position is a great opportunity to serve the community and gain experience in a wide variety of public works construction projects. Seasonal laborer positions are held for periods of up to 6 months, and those employees that exhibit a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, good attitude may be considered for full time permanent employment in the Department of Public Works.

POSITIONS WITH PARKS & URBAN FORESTRY

(7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., M-F) The work involves duties which are primarily of a routine manual nature. Typical work duties include string trimming, trash collection, mowing, general landscaping, painting and repair, and related activities. The work may also involve the performance of brush removal, raking and unskilled maintenance and repairs. The work is performed under the direction of a higher-level public works employee. Does related work as required

POSITION WITH SIGN SHOP

(4:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., M-F) The work involves duties which are primarily of a routine manual nature. Typical work duties include installation of signs, road markings, and performing traffic control. The work may also involve the performance of unskilled maintenance and repairs. The work is performed under the direction of a higher-level public works employee. Does related work as required.

POSITIONS WITH HIGHWAYS

(7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., M-F) The work involves duties which are primarily of a routine manual and unskilled nature requiring physical endurance and a willingness to perform heavy work. This work involves duties in the construction and repair of roads, curbs, sidewalks, and drainage systems. The work can be physically demanding and is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions, occasionally during off hours and weekends during emergencies. The work is performed under the direct supervision of a higher level public works crew member. Does related work as required.
