Parks Laborer Franklin Park Borough - Parks Department Full-Time | Union Position Position Summary Franklin Park Borough is seeking a dependable, motivated individual to join our Parks Department as a full-time Parks Laborer. This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, groundskeeping, landscaping, equipment operation, and general labor duties necessary to maintain the Borough's parks, recreational facilities, athletic fields, trails, and public spaces. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in maintaining high-quality public spaces, and is comfortable performing physically demanding work in varying weather conditions. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Perform general maintenance and groundskeeping throughout Borough parks and recreational facilities. Mow, trim, edge, weed, mulch, seed, fertilize, and otherwise maintain lawns and landscaped areas. Maintain athletic fields, playground areas, trails, picnic areas, pavilions, and other recreational facilities. Perform routine preparation and maintenance of baseball, softball, soccer, football, and other athletic fields as assigned. Plant, prune, maintain, and remove trees, shrubs, flowers, and other vegetation. Assist with trail maintenance, vegetation management, erosion repair, and general upkeep of natural areas. Inspect park grounds and facilities and identify maintenance, repair, and safety concerns. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to park buildings, pavilions, restrooms, fencing, benches, signs, playground equipment, and other Borough property. Operate trucks, tractors, mowers, utility vehicles, string trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and other hand and power equipment. Perform routine equipment maintenance, including checking fluids, lubrication, cleaning, and identifying needed repairs. Load, unload, move, and transport materials, equipment, tools, and supplies. Assist with setup, cleanup, and maintenance associated with Borough recreational programs, community events, and park activities. Pick up litter, empty trash receptacles, and maintain clean and attractive park facilities. Perform general labor including digging, raking, shoveling, cleaning, hauling, and lifting materials weighing up to approximately 70 pounds. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain. Follow Borough safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment. Interact professionally and courteously with residents, park users, coworkers, and the general public. Perform other Parks Department duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Applicants should possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license and be capable of safely performing the physical requirements of the position. Candidates must be able to perform sustained outdoor physical labor, including standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and operating equipment. Applicants should also have the ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, work independently or as part of a crew, safely operate tools and equipment, and maintain a reliable work schedule. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, groundskeeping, construction, property maintenance, athletic field maintenance, or a related field is preferred but not required. Experience operating commercial mowing equipment, tractors, skid steers, chainsaws, landscaping equipment, or similar equipment is also desirable. A Pennsylvania CDL, pesticide applicator certification, landscaping or horticultural experience, athletic field maintenance experience, or other relevant licenses and certifications are a plus. Work Environment This is a physically active position that is primarily performed outdoors. Employees should expect to work in heat, cold, rain, mud, dust, uneven terrain, wooded areas, and other conditions normally associated with municipal park operations. Some early morning, evening, weekend, or special-event work may be required depending upon seasonal operations and Borough activities.
