Full Job Description Position Overview:
The Traveling Laborer supports skilled workers on retail installation projects by performing a variety of tasks that contribute to the successful execution of projects across multiple locations. This role includes operating tools, handling materials, and assisting with basic construction tasks. The Traveling Laborer is expected to follow instructions, adhere to safety protocols, and develop foundational skills in construction techniques.
Probationary Period:
This position is subject to a 90-day probationary period. During this time, performance and fit within the organization will be assessed. Employment is at-will, meaning either the employee or the employer may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice, during or after the probationary period.
Key Responsibilities:
On-Site Support:
Assist skilled workers with various tasks on retail installation sites, including construction and setup activities. Handle and move materials, equipment, and tools as directed by the Traveling Foreman or skilled workers.
Tool Operation and Maintenance:
Operate hand and power tools under supervision, ensuring proper use and care. Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
Construction Tasks:
Perform basic construction duties such as digging, lifting, carrying, and site cleaning. Help set up and tear down job sites efficiently and safely.
Safety and Compliance:
Follow all instructions and adhere to safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment. Identify and report potential hazards or unsafe practices to the Traveling Foreman.
Skill Development:
Learn and develop skills in construction techniques to advance in the trade. Demonstrate a willingness to take on new responsibilities and grow within the role.
Qualifications:
Experience:
Previous experience in construction or labor-intensive work is preferred but not required.
Skills:
Ability to use basic hand and power tools safely and effectively. Strong physical stamina and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks. Good communication skills and the ability to follow directions accurately. Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to supporting project goals.
Preferred Skills:
Familiarity with construction or installation projects is a plus. Basic understanding of safety protocols in a construction environment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, carry, and move products as needed up to 35 lbs. Ability to build/install racking, gondola and fixtures based on customer's specifications. Frequently climb ladders as the job requires. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Work Environment:
A clean, safe work environment is always required. Frequent travel to retail locations within assigned regions. Must be able to work independently while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor. Must be on time and presentable in uniform as per company dress code. Ear buds and telephone use are strictly prohibited during working hours, except during scheduled breaks. May require evening or weekend work depending on project timelines.
