Underground Telecom Laborer CommPath Construction LLC Mineola, TX Job Details Full-time $18 - $28 an hour 9 days ago Qualifications Network infrastructure Power tools Hand tools Juniper Full Job Description Job Overview An Underground Telecom Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing underground telecommunications infrastructure. This includes fiber optic and copper cable systems, conduit, handholes, vaults, and associated equipment. The technician works in outdoor environments, ensuring network reliability while adhering to safety standards and company procedures. Duties Install, splice, terminate, and test underground fiber optic and copper telecommunications cables. Locate, diagnose, and repair cable faults and service outages. Read and interpret utility maps, blueprints, and construction drawings. Install conduit, handholes, pull boxes, and underground cable systems. Operate equipment such as cable pullers, trenchers, directional drills, vacuum excavators, and other construction tools. Conduct cable testing using OTDRs, power meters, and other diagnostic equipment. Ensure all work complies with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and local utility standards. Coordinate with utility locators to identify existing underground facilities before excavation. Complete work orders, service reports, and documentation accurately and on time. Respond to emergency outages and participate in an on-call rotation as required. Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in safe working condition. Install, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic systems using specialized diagnostic tools and equipment. Perform fiber splicing with precision to ensure optimal signal quality and system performance. Conduct network wiring, structured cabling installation, and cable termination following schematics and technical specifications. Utilize telecommunication testing equipment such as Ohmmeters, LAN testers, and RF testers to diagnose issues accurately. Repair and maintain telecommunication equipment including Cisco routers, Juniper devices, Avaya systems, and VoIP hardware. Assist with the installation of Ethernet networks, Cat5/Cat6 cabling, and low-voltage electrical wiring for various communication systems. Collaborate with team members to interpret schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals for system installation or repair projects. Ensure compliance with safety standards related to electrical systems (AC/DC), structured cabling practices, and telecommunications regulations. Skills Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations and excavation safety practices. Mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand and power tools. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Proficiency in fiber optic systems installation, splicing, and troubleshooting techniques. Work Environment Outdoor construction and utility environments. Exposure to varying weather conditions, traffic, noise, and dirt. Travel to multiple job sites within assigned service areas. May require overnight travel depending on project locations.
