Excavation & Underground Utility Laborer — Job Description We're hiring a hardworking Excavation & Underground Utility Laborer to support underground utility installation and site earthwork. You'll assist the crew with site prep and trenching-related tasks, material handling, equipment support, cleanup, and site safety—helping the project stay on schedule while following all safety procedures. Key Responsibilities Assist with excavation and trench support activities (spotting, leveling, shoveling, and moving material as directed). Load/unload and stage pipe, fittings, conduit, backfill materials, and job materials. Operate or assist with small equipment as trained/assigned (e.g., plate compactor, skid steer/telehandler support, hand tools). Assist with pipe/conduit installation tasks (cleaning ends, aligning sections, stringing lines, basic measurements). Perform backfill, compaction support, and restoration tasks (as directed by the foreman). Keep the site clean and organized: remove debris, manage spoil piles, and maintain safe work zones. Follow trench safety and utility location requirements; protect existing utilities and follow daily safety briefs. Support locating/marking efforts (flagging, verifying marks, assisting with potholing as needed). Document basic site activities as requested (materials moved, quantities used, daily support tasks). Communicate with the foreman and crew to correct issues quickly and maintain productivity. Required Qualifications Able to perform physical labor: lifting, digging, carrying materials, and working in outdoor conditions. Willing to work in a variety of weather conditions and at job sites that may be outdoors for long periods. Basic knowledge of construction tools and safe work practices. Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Valid driver's license (if driving to job sites is required). Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and meet company safety requirements. Preferred Qualifications Experience in excavation, underground utilities, or general labor on construction sites. OSHA 10 (or willingness to obtain) and/or experience with trench safety procedures.

Familiarity with jobsite safety:

PPE use, hazard identification, and safe tool/equipment operation. Experience with compaction, raking/leveling, and basic site restoration. Physical Requirements Frequent lifting (up to approximately 50 lbs, or more as required by site needs) Ability to kneel, bend, and work for extended periods Ability to work in trenches and confined work spaces (as required and only within safety procedures) Work Schedule / Environment (Example) Full-time, Monday-Friday with occasional overtime Outdoor work, noise, dust, and heavy equipment activity
