Join our dynamic team as an Underground Utility Construction Laborer and play a vital role in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting underground telecommunications and fiber optic systems. This energetic position offers the opportunity to work outdoors on diverse construction projects, utilizing your technical skills and physical endurance to support the development of essential network infrastructure. You will be instrumental in ensuring safe, efficient installation and repair of underground utility lines, contributing to reliable communication services for communities and businesses alike. Responsibilities Assist with the excavation, trenching, and backfilling of underground utility lines using hand tools and heavy equipment such as excavators and loaders. Operate specialized equipment including bucket trucks, telecommunication splicing tools, and diagnostic devices to facilitate installation and maintenance tasks. Install fiber optic cables and telecommunications network cables in outdoor environments, following schematics and technical drawings precisely. Perform telecommunications testing using specialized testing equipment to verify signal integrity, network performance, and troubleshoot issues effectively. Interpreting technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings to ensure accurate cable routing and system setup. Conduct safety inspections adhering to the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards while working on outdoor utility projects. Climb poles or structures safely using appropriate climbing gear to install or repair overhead lines or equipment. Support telecommunications outside plant operations by splicing fiber optic cables, connecting network infrastructure, and ensuring proper cable management. Use computer networking tools such as voltmeters, LAN/Ethernet testers, and telephony testing devices for troubleshooting network issues. Skills Proven experience in outdoor construction environments with a focus on telecommunications or electrical systems. Strong knowledge of fiber optic systems installation, splicing, and troubleshooting techniques. Skilled in operating heavy equipment including bucket trucks, power tools, and hand tools safely and efficiently. Familiarity with telecommunications testing equipment for diagnosing network issues. Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering plans accurately. Knowledge of low voltage wiring practices for LAN (Local Area Network), Ethernet connections, telephony systems, and power supplies. Experience with telecommunication outside plant operations including cable pulling, splicing, and installation procedures. Understanding of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards relevant to outdoor utility work. Capable of climbing poles or structures safely while maintaining balance and adhering to safety protocols. Technical proficiency in troubleshooting IT infrastructure issues related to fiber optic networks or network cabling.

$17.00 - $22.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 50.0 per week
