Full Job Description Field Construction Manager Location:
Alaska | Extensive travel to remote project sites required Join the NSTI Team North Slope Telecom, Inc. (NSTI) is seeking an experienced Field Construction Manager to lead telecommunications construction activities across Alaska. This field-focused leadership position oversees multiple active projects involving tower construction, fiber, outside plant infrastructure, and telecommunications systems. The Field Construction Manager serves as a key connection between field crews, Project Management, and Engineering to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements. The ideal candidate brings strong telecommunications construction experience, practical field knowledge, and the leadership skills necessary to coordinate crews, resolve field challenges, maintain high standards of workmanship, and keep projects moving forward. Key Responsibilities Field Construction Leadership Oversee construction activities across multiple active projects and job sites. Provide leadership and technical direction for tower construction, fiber splicing, OSP trenching, aerial construction, and telecommunications installations. Coordinate personnel, equipment, materials, logistics, and site activities to support project schedules. Provide daily leadership, mentorship, and technical support to field leads and technicians. Reinforce NSTI's safety requirements, construction standards, and quality expectations. Project Execution and Coordination Review construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and other project requirements. Ensure field work is completed in accordance with approved designs, specifications, safety standards, and project expectations. Work closely with Project Management and Engineering to identify and resolve field issues, design discrepancies, and constructability concerns. Communicate project progress, risks, redlines, field changes, and resource needs in a timely manner. Forecast labor, equipment, material, and logistical requirements for upcoming work. Coordinate material staging and field logistics with Procurement, Warehouse, and project personnel. Support accurate as-built documentation, project closeout, and turnover activities. Safety, Quality and Field Verification Perform field walkdowns and inspections to verify progress, workmanship, quality, and compliance with project requirements. Lead and participate in job hazard analyses, safety briefings, quality inspections, and punch-list completion. Identify unsafe conditions, quality concerns, and construction risks and ensure appropriate corrective action is taken. Support field testing and verification activities, including OTDR and OLTS testing, RF testing and peaking, grounding validation, sweep testing, and tower inspections, as applicable. Promote a field culture centered on safety, accountability, teamwork, quality, and continuous improvement. Required Qualifications Five or more years of progressively responsible telecommunications construction experience. Hands-on experience in at least two telecommunications construction disciplines, such as tower construction, fiber, OSP, or telecommunications systems. Demonstrated experience leading field crews and coordinating construction activities. Experience working in remote, challenging, or high-stakes field environments. Ability to read, interpret, and redline construction drawings, specifications, and scopes of work. Strong understanding of construction scheduling, field documentation, material planning, logistics, and resource coordination. Familiarity with telecommunications testing equipment, including OTDRs, RF analyzers, and sweep testers. Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Current CPR and First Aid certification. Ability and willingness to travel to remote locations for extended periods and work flexible schedules based on project requirements. Work Environment and Physical Requirements This position is predominantly field-based and requires travel to project sites throughout Alaska, including remote and rugged locations. The Field Construction Manager must be comfortable working outdoors in extreme weather, changing site conditions, and active construction environments. The position may require walking over uneven terrain, lifting and carrying equipment, climbing ladders or towers when necessary, and working extended or flexible schedules based on project and travel requirements.
