Cross Dock Manager

Job Description

Company Overview Ponce Ground Service LLC is a family-owned and operated business dedicated to delivering strategic logistics solutions that reduce transportation costs, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure timely deliveries. We are committed to supporting our clients' success through reliable and innovative distribution management. Join us to lead innovative distribution solutions that keep goods moving efficiently! We value energetic leaders who thrive in fast-paced environments and are passionate about optimizing supply chain processes. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to influence operational excellence while supporting a collaborative team dedicated to excellence in logistics. About the jobSite Manager - Cross-Dock Operations Role Summary The Site Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day operation, performance, safety, and leadership of the assigned cross-dock facility. This role provides direct oversight of site leadership and hourly operations while ensuring freight is processed safely, accurately, and within established service expectations. The Site Manager serves as the primary operational leader at the facility and is accountable for maintaining a safe, organized, and productive work environment. Responsibilities include managing labor, equipment, dock and yard activity, operational reporting, facility conditions, training, and compliance with company policies and established SOPs. The position requires a hands-on leader who can identify operational risks, resolve issues quickly, develop their team, and maintain consistent communication with Senior Leadership. What Success in the Position Looks Like Success as a Site Manager means maintaining a facility that operates safely, consistently, and with minimal need for escalation. The Site Manager is expected to understand the operation in real time and take ownership of issues before they negatively impact performance.
A successful Site Manager will:
Maintain a safe and organized dock, yard, and facility. Meet established productivity, service, scanning, and operational performance expectations. Ensure inbound and outbound freight is processed accurately and within required timelines. Maintain appropriate staffing and labor utilization based on operational volume. Ensure supervisors, team leads, clerks, PIT operators, drivers, and other site personnel understand their responsibilities. Hold employees and leadership accountable to company policies, SOPs, and performance standards. Maintain accurate operational reports, equipment inspections, yard records, and required documentation. Identify equipment, property, safety, or operational issues and escalate them through the proper channels. Maintain control of backlog and develop corrective plans when performance falls below expectations. Conduct routine facility, dock, yard, equipment, and safety walkthroughs. Ensure training, coaching, and corrective actions are completed and documented when necessary. Communicate clearly with Senior Leadership regarding site performance, risks, needs, and corrective actions. Develop supervisors and team leads so the operation remains stable across all shifts, including when the Site Manager is not physically present. How the Role Fits Into the Organization The Site Manager is the primary connection between facility-level operations and Senior Leadership. The position is responsible for taking company expectations, operating standards, and strategic direction and ensuring they are consistently executed at the site level. Site Managers are expected to own their operation rather than rely on Senior Leadership to identify or resolve routine site issues. They provide Senior Leadership with accurate visibility into operational performance, staffing, safety concerns, equipment needs, property conditions, and potential risks. The Site Manager also works closely with Safety, Human Resources, Loss Prevention, Maintenance, and other support functions to ensure the facility remains compliant and operationally prepared. Ultimately, the Site Manager is accountable for creating a stable operation where employees understand expectations, leadership is actively engaged, operational issues are addressed quickly, and the facility consistently meets company standards for safety, service, productivity, and professionalism. Qualifications & ExperienceRequired Minimum 3 years of experience in warehouse, cross-dock, transportation, logistics, distribution, or a similar operational environment. Minimum 4-5 years of experience in a leadership, supervisory, or management role within warehouse, cross-dock, transportation, logistics, distribution, or a similar operational environment. Demonstrated ability to manage employees, assign work, hold teams accountable, and address performance concerns. Experience managing daily operational volume, labor requirements, workload prioritization, and shift execution. Strong understanding of warehouse and dock safety practices. Ability to identify operational problems, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to prepare and review operational reports, performance metrics, and basic productivity data. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other standard business systems. Ability to work in a fast-paced operation and adjust priorities based on volume, staffing, equipment availability, and business needs. Ability to work a flexible schedule as required by the operation, including occasional nights, weekends, or extended hours. Preferred Previous cross-dock or LTL freight experience. Experience managing multiple shifts or a 24-hour operation. Experience with PIT operations, yard management, trailer movements, or dock scheduling. Experience working with productivity metrics, scan compliance, trailer dwell, backlog management, or similar operational KPIs. Experience developing supervisors, team leads, or other front-line leadership. Experience with safety audits, operational audits, SOP implementation, and corrective action plans. Familiarity with workforce scheduling, timekeeping systems, and labor planning. Education High school diploma or GED required. Associate or bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, Transportation, Operations Management, or a related field preferred. Relevant operational and leadership experience may be considered in place of a college degree.
