WORKING SUPERINTENDENT
This position reports directly to the Project Manager of the job site. The Working Superintendent may be placed with various projects and therefore different Project Managers throughout the year or may be placed for a few years on one site. This is a management role and will be expected to manage subcontractors, and interface with clients on a regular basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN WORKING SUPERINTENDENT
Coordinates and supervises assigned construction activities and trades. Directs assigned field personnel to achieve completion of the project on schedule, with quality workmanship that conforms to original plans and specifications. Maintains construction schedule, identifies and solves problems. Orders materials and schedules inspections as necessary throughout the process. Understands project plans and specifications. Maintains positive relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers and other employees. Prepares schedules and supervises completion of a final punch list. Promotes job site safety, encourages safe work practices and rectifies job site hazards immediately. Ensures all company employees and contractors are adhering to the company safety policy. Maintains an organized job site.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
Gather project material at the jobsite. Identify areas of work that are outside of subcontracted scope. Preside at all construction meeting with OAC and subcontractors. Opening the jobsite at beginning of the day and securing the jobsite at the end of the day. Assist in hiring sub-tier employees, as needed or directed. Demolition as needed and defined by the job scope. Installation of Doors, Hardware, Backing, Fixtures, FRP, etc. Cleaning as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Ability to identify deficient work and bring it to the attention of the project manager and if necessary, uses corrective action to resolve the deficiency.
Communicate using the following tools:
Mobile device, written logs, email, computer devices, digital camera. Blueprint reading. Physically lift up to 100 lbs. Endurance and ability to visit entire job site, including stairs or other elevated structures. Monitoring jobsite general health and safety. Working Superintendents are required to and be able to demonstrate that people occupying buildings on sites are adequately protected from hazards such as explosions, fires, chemical reaction fallout and toxic releases and that they can safely escape from those buildings. SKILLS:
Mathematical
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Physical Demands
