OVERVIEW Merrick & Company is seeking a Construction Management student for a paid summer internship for Summer 2027 to join our Denver, Colorado or Loveland, Colorado office. This internship provides an outstanding opportunity for a motivated student to apply academic knowledge in a real-world environment. The selected candidate will work alongside Merrick's construction services staff in the field and in the office, helping document daily construction activities, track progress, observe work against project requirements, and support coordination among the owner, contractor, designer, and project team. Merrick's summer internship program offers meaningful, hands-on experience for students. Designed as a shorter-term, exploratory experience, internships allow students to apply what they're learning in school while gaining exposure to real projects, professional collaboration, and day-to-day life at an employee-owned company. The summer internship has a commitment of approximately mid-May through mid-August 2027.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Support Merrick's construction services team on active construction projects in an owner's representative, construction management, and field observation role.

Assist with daily field reports, photo documentation, progress tracking, and documentation of contractor activities and field conditions.

Follow safety requirements on active construction sites while observing construction work for general conformance with project drawings, specifications, permits, and owner requirements.

Support tracking of RFIs, submittals, meeting notes, field issues, punch list items, change-related items, and follow-up actions.

Help document installed quantities, construction progress, and information used to support contractor pay applications and project status updates.

Participate in site walks, progress meetings, and coordination discussions with Merrick staff, contractors, owners, designers, and specialty consultants.

Assist with quality assurance documentation and coordination of materials testing and inspection activities.

Assist with review and interpretation of construction drawings, specifications and contract documents to support field observation and documentation.

Gain hands-on exposure to water, wastewater, pipeline, utility, roadway, and civil infrastructure construction.

Collaborate with project team members to identify, document, and help track construction-related issues through resolution.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Must have graduation date after August 2027 to be eligible.

Must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in either Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.

Must be currently enrolled and entering junior year or higher of undergraduate degree or currently enrolled in grad school

Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate active construction areas safely.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be insurable under Merrick's insurance carrier.

Must be eligible to work in the United States without Sponsorship.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Interest in construction management, field observation, water/wastewater, civil infrastructure, or owner's representative services.

Familiarity with construction documentation tools and software such as Bluebeam Revu, Procore, SharePoint, Microsoft Project, and the use of iPad tablets is a plus.
