Job Description
Position Summary Exterra Construction is seeking a hands-on, bilingual Construction Superintendent to lead daily field operations for the development of the Fort DuPont Campground Resort in Delaware City, Delaware. The project will include extensive site development and horizontal infrastructure, campground utilities and improvements, roads, concrete work, recreational amenities, landscaping, and the renovation of an existing approximately 15,000-square-foot masonry building into the resort clubhouse. Additional vertical structures and amenities may be incorporated as the project progresses. The Superintendent will be Exterra's principal field representative and will be responsible for coordinating subcontractors, maintaining the construction schedule, enforcing quality and safety requirements, managing inspections, and providing clear daily reporting to project leadership. The Superintendent must be able to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish with field personnel, subcontractors, consultants, inspectors, and ownership representatives. Primary Responsibilities Direct and coordinate daily construction activities across the project site Manage subcontractors, trade sequencing, manpower, deliveries, equipment, and site logistics Lead daily planning and short-interval scheduling to maintain project milestones Coordinate civil/sitework, underground utilities, roads, concrete, landscaping, amenities, and vertical construction Review drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and approved changes before work is installed Identify field conflicts early and coordinate practical solutions with the project manager, design team, and subcontractors Conduct daily site walks and verify that completed work meets plans, specifications, code requirements, and Exterra quality standards Coordinate municipal, utility, fire marshal, health department, and other required inspections Maintain daily reports documenting manpower, work performed, deliveries, inspections, weather, delays, photographs, and notable field conditions Prepare and manage two-week and three-week look-ahead schedules Lead subcontractor coordination meetings, toolbox talks, and daily safety discussions as required Communicate field direction accurately in both English and Spanish Enforce site-specific safety requirements and immediately address unsafe conditions Track punch-list items, corrective work, testing, startup, closeout, and turnover Maintain a professional jobsite and productive working relationships with ownership, neighbors, public agencies, and project partners Support cost control by verifying completed work, documenting changes, and preventing unauthorized work Assist Exterra in developing repeatable field procedures that can be used on future projects in multiple states Required Qualifications Minimum 5 years of construction field experience Minimum 2 years in a superintendent, assistant superintendent, or comparable field-leadership role Professional working proficiency in English and Spanish Demonstrated experience supervising subcontractors and construction crews Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, field layout, scheduling, quality control, and inspections Experience with site development, civil infrastructure, underground utilities, concrete, or land-development construction Ability to maintain clear digital daily reports, photographs, schedules, and field records Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Ability to work full-time on-site in Delaware City, Delaware Preferred Qualifications Campground, resort, hospitality, residential-community, or large-site development experience OSHA 30 certification Experience working in Delaware or the greater Delaware-Philadelphia-Maryland market Familiarity with construction-management software Experience delivering a project from initial sitework through final turnover Personal Characteristics The successful candidate will be organized, direct, even-tempered, and comfortable taking ownership of field operations. This position requires someone who can earn the respect of subcontractors, communicate clearly across language and cultural differences, anticipate problems, and maintain accountability without creating unnecessary conflict. Compensation Exterra Construction expects to offer a competitive base salary in the range of $110,000 to $135,000 , depending on experience, along with a performance bonus, vehicle allowance or company vehicle, phone, computer, paid time off, and additional benefits to be finalized.
