A Construction Superintendent runs day-to-day operations on a construction site and controls the short-term schedule on the site. Also performs important quality control and coordinates subcontractors. Often works in cooperation with construction project manager.
Traveling Superintendent Own the Jobsite. Lead the Team. Build It Right. RLH Construction is seeking an experienced Traveling Superintendent to lead the day-to-day field operations of commercial construction projects throughout Florida. This role is responsible for directing subcontractors, maintaining project schedules, enforcing safety and quality standards, and ensuring each project is executed to RLH's high standards. Our Traveling Superintendents are hands-on field leaders who take ownership of their jobsites from mobilization through completion. They work closely with Project Managers, subcontractors, clients, architects, and engineers to keep projects moving, solve problems in the field, and deliver a successful project. This position requires the flexibility to temporarily reside near assigned project locations for the duration of the project.
What You'll Do Jobsite Leadership:
Take ownership of daily field operations, establishing clear expectations and maintaining an organized, productive, and professional jobsite.
Subcontractor Management:
Direct and coordinate subcontractors and vendors, ensuring work is properly sequenced, adequately staffed, and progressing according to the project schedule.
Schedule Management:
Monitor daily and weekly progress, identify potential delays, and work proactively with the Project Manager and subcontractors to maintain project milestones.
Plan & Specification Execution:
Maintain a strong working knowledge of drawings, specifications, submittals, and project requirements; identify conflicts or constructability concerns and address them before they impact the project.
Quality Control :
Inspect completed and ongoing work to ensure installations meet plans, specifications, applicable codes, and RLH quality standards. Identify deficiencies and ensure they are corrected appropriately.
Safety Leadership:
Establish and maintain a strong safety culture on the jobsite, enforcing RLH policies, project safety requirements, and applicable regulations.
Project Coordination:
Partner closely with the Project Manager to coordinate field activities, manpower, materials, inspections, deliveries, and subcontractor schedules.
Client & Design Team Relationships:
Represent RLH professionally with owners, clients, architects, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, and vendors while building relationships based on communication, integrity, and trust.
Field Documentation:
Maintain accurate daily reports, photographs, inspection records, schedules, and other required project documentation.
Problem Solving:
Identify field issues early, evaluate solutions, and work with the Project Manager and project team to resolve constructability, scheduling, and coordination challenges.
Team Development:
Provide guidance and mentorship to Assistant Superintendents, Junior Superintendents, and other field personnel, helping develop the next generation of RLH field leaders.
Project Closeout:
Lead field activities through punch list, inspections, commissioning, and project turnover, ensuring the project is completed to RLH standards.
Preconstruction Partnership:
Provide field input to Project Managers and preconstruction teams when appropriate, including constructability, sequencing, logistics, and scheduling considerations. What We're Looking For 5+ years of commercial construction experience, with demonstrated experience leading commercial construction projects in a Superintendent or comparable field leadership role. Strong working knowledge of commercial construction methods, building systems, sequencing, and jobsite operations. Proven ability to effectively manage subcontractors, coordinate multiple trades, and maintain project schedules. Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, inspections, and applicable building codes. Demonstrated ability to identify problems early, make sound field decisions, and develop practical solutions. Strong leadership skills with the ability to establish accountability while maintaining positive relationships with subcontractors and project partners. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with Project Managers, clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and field personnel. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced construction environment. Ability to work independently and take ownership of project outcomes while remaining a strong partner to the project team. Proficiency with construction management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office. OSHA 30 Certification preferred. Valid Florida driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Travel Flexibility:
Willingness and ability to travel to assigned project locations throughout Florida and temporarily reside near the project site for the duration of the assignment.
Physical Capability:
Ability to walk active construction sites, climb stairs and ladders, inspect work in varying conditions, and work safely in outdoor environments.
