As we expand our utility contracting capabilities, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Underground Utilities Foreman to lead our self-performing utility crews. About This Role This is a key hire for Grey Development. We are building out our utility contracting division and need a leader who holds (or is working toward) a Georgia Utility Manager License. Candidates who currently hold a Utility Foreman License are strongly encouraged to apply. We will support the right candidate through the Utility Manager examination process. As an Underground Utilities Foreman, you will supervise and coordinate the work of both self-performing and subcontracted crews on wet and dry utility installations. Reporting to the VP of Construction, you will ensure that all underground pipe installation operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality and compliance. While the primary focus is underground utilities, you may also be assigned to lead other construction crews as project needs require. For that reason, knowledge of other construction trades (grading, earthwork, concrete, erosion control) is a significant plus. Responsibilities Lead and coordinate daily activities of self-performing and subcontracted utility crews Plan, assign, and manage workloads to ensure balanced distribution of tasks across active projects Ensure proper elevations, grading, excavation, shoring, and placement conditions throughout all utility installations Read, interpret, and evaluate blueprints, civil drawings, and project specifications to ensure accuracy and adherence Maintain knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulations for pipe installation, inspection, testing, trench safety, and erosion control on residential, commercial, and public works projects Coordinate with suppliers to manage material orders, scheduling, delivery, and local vendor logistics Monitor quality, productivity, and safety on-site, conducting inspections and ensuring craftsmanship meets project specifications Provide training, direction, and leadership to crews, fostering a safety-first and productive work environment Conduct regular toolbox talks and training sessions to reinforce safety practices and enhance technical skills Maintain accurate daily logs, progress reports, safety documentation, and site records. Review timecards and time-off requests. Operate and maintain pipeline-related equipment including gas and diesel powered equipment, power tools, laser leveling instruments, small equipment, and other related machinery Ensure job sites are safe, clean, and properly secured at all times Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and inspectors to resolve technical issues and maintain efficient workflows Assist with other construction operations as required by project demands Qualifications Georgia Utility Manager License (preferred) OR Georgia Utility Foreman License (minimum) with willingness to pursue the Utility Manager exam. Grey Development will sponsor the licensing process for the right candidate. Minimum of 7 years of experience in underground utilities construction, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or foreman role Experience with both wet utilities (water, sewer, storm drain) and dry utilities (gas, electric, telecommunications conduit) preferred Broad knowledge of related construction trades (grading, earthwork, concrete, erosion control) expected Proven track record of successfully leading crews on commercial and residential construction projects Understanding of and certification in trench safety regulations and practices (OSHA Competent Person for excavation preferred) Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and manage diverse field teams Ability to read and interpret civil blueprints, grading plans, utility plans, and specifications OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification preferred Valid Georgia driver's license with a clean driving record. CDL is a plus but not required.
