Job Description

Young Management & Consulting (YMC) is seeking an experienced Electrical Superintendent to provide field leadership and construction oversight for major power generation and industrial construction projects. The Electrical Superintendent will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of electrical construction activities, including oversight of direct-hire craft personnel, subcontractors, field engineers, foremen, and electrical supervision. Experience supporting conventional power generation construction projects is strongly preferred. This is a senior field leadership position requiring extensive electrical construction knowledge, strong supervisory capabilities, and the ability to coordinate complex construction activities across multiple disciplines. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to manage safety, quality, productivity, cost, schedule, labor relations, and subcontractor performance on large-scale construction projects. Key ResponsibilitiesElectrical Construction & Field Leadership Provide overall field leadership for electrical construction activities across assigned project areas. Supervise electrical general foremen, foremen, craft personnel, subcontractor supervision, and field engineering personnel. Coordinate electrical installation activities with Construction Management, Engineering, Project Controls, Safety, Quality, and other construction disciplines. Ensure electrical construction activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, project procedures, applicable codes, and contractual requirements. Provide craft supervision and subcontractors with the technical information and direction necessary to safely and efficiently execute assigned work. Coordinate interpretation of drawings, specifications, technical requirements, and construction work packages. Administer and oversee execution of electrical work packages and equipment installation. Identify constructability issues and coordinate solutions with Engineering and Construction Management. Serve as a senior field representative and, when requested, provide site leadership coverage for the Construction Manager. Power Generation Construction Provide construction oversight for electrical systems associated with conventional power generation facilities and other complex industrial projects. Coordinate electrical construction activities with mechanical, civil, structural, instrumentation and controls, commissioning, and other project disciplines. Understand overall project sequencing and how electrical construction activities impact other trades and critical project milestones. Support installation, turnover, testing, commissioning, and completion activities for electrical systems and equipment. Ensure electrical work is properly sequenced to support energization, startup, commissioning, and overall project completion requirements. Safety & Quality Promote and enforce a strong safety culture throughout all electrical construction activities. Ensure craft personnel and subcontractors comply with project safety programs, policies, procedures, and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) requirements. Develop and distribute Job Hazard Analyses for major electrical installation and erection activities. Identify unsafe conditions or behaviors and take immediate corrective action when required. Partner with Safety and Quality personnel to ensure project requirements are consistently implemented. Monitor construction quality and verify installations comply with approved drawings, specifications, codes, and project standards. Oversee electrical punch-list activities and drive timely completion of outstanding items. Support continuous improvement and implementation of project lessons learned. Scheduling, Planning & Productivity Monitor electrical construction activities for compliance with the overall CPM project schedule. Develop, maintain, and communicate three-week look-ahead schedules for assigned electrical scopes. Conduct daily and weekly planning meetings with foremen, subcontractors, and field supervision. Verify that manpower, materials, equipment, tools, engineering information, and other resources are available to support upcoming work. Track installed quantities, productivity, progress, and schedule performance. Identify potential schedule or productivity impacts and develop corrective action plans. Coordinate electrical work plans with other discipline Superintendents and Construction Management to prevent conflicts and maintain project sequencing. Communicate schedule requirements and project priorities to all levels of electrical craft supervision. Cost & Project Controls Monitor electrical construction productivity, progress, labor utilization, and cost performance. Partner with Project Controls and Construction Management to maintain established cost and productivity targets. Review craft and subcontractor timesheets, installed quantity reports, progress reports, and payment requests. Maintain accurate daily construction logs and field records. Identify potential back charges, scope changes, and out-of-scope work and communicate findings to Construction Management. Assist with extra-work authorization requests, change management, and commercial recovery activities. Monitor subcontractors for compliance with contractual scope, schedule, productivity, and performance requirements. Subcontractor Management Establish productive working relationships with electrical subcontractors and their field supervision. Monitor subcontractor manpower, productivity, quality, safety, schedule, and contractual performance. Conduct subcontractor and foreman meetings to support daily, weekly, and monthly planning. Coordinate subcontractor activities with other project disciplines and site operations. Work with Field Subcontract Administration and Construction Management to resolve scope, schedule, cost, and performance issues. Support preparation and review of Contractor Information Requests (CIRs), work authorizations, and other field documentation. Union & Labor Relations For projects operating under union labor agreements, the Electrical Superintendent will: Ensure daily project execution complies with applicable national and local project labor agreements. Maintain working knowledge of local union agreements, jurisdictional requirements, and work rules. Develop professional working relationships with Local Union Business Agents, Job Stewards, and project leadership. Coordinate union interface points to maintain uninterrupted workflow. Recognize and proactively address potential labor or jurisdictional issues. Partner with Construction Management and Labor Relations personnel to resolve workforce concerns while maintaining project productivity and schedule requirements. Team Leadership & Development Provide leadership, supervision, training, mentoring, and performance management for electrical field personnel. Mentor foremen, general foremen, field engineers, and developing Superintendents. Identify training and professional development needs within the electrical construction team. Establish clear expectations for safety, quality, productivity, communication, and accountability. Support hiring, workforce planning, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and other supervisory responsibilities as required. Lead by example and promote collaboration across construction disciplines. Minimum Qualifications 11+ years of progressive construction experience, including significant experience as an Electrical Superintendent, Discipline Superintendent, Construction Manager, or equivalent field leadership position on major industrial or power generation projects. Extensive knowledge of electrical construction means, methods, sequencing, equipment, and field execution. Experience supervising large electrical craft workforces and/or major electrical subcontractors. Demonstrated experience managing construction safety, quality, schedule, productivity, and cost. Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, construction schedules, contracts, and technical documentation. Strong understanding of multidisciplinary construction sequencing and coordination. Experience developing and managing short-term construction schedules and three-week look-ahead plans. Strong leadership, communication, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving abilities. Valid driver's license. OSHA 10 certification. Ability to successfully complete applicable pre-employment requirements, which may include background screening, drug screening, and motor vehicle record review in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Preferred Qualifications Previous Electrical Superintendent experience on conventional power generation construction projects is strongly preferred. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline. Significant experience with EPC power generation or major industrial construction projects. Experience with power plant electrical construction, installation, testing, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities. Experience working in union construction environments. Knowledge of national and local project labor agreements and craft jurisdiction requirements. Industrial Relations training. Formal training in construction management, contract administration, scheduling, cost control, and back-charge management. Experience managing direct-hire craft construction operations. Experience managing large electrical subcontractors. The Electrical Superintendent must be able to: Work extended shifts as required by project schedules, potentially including shifts of up to 12 hours. Work outdoors in varying weather and temperature conditions. Navigate active construction areas, including uneven terrain, confined or congested work areas, stairs, ladders, scaffolding, and elevated structures. Stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, and climb for extended periods. Lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds when required. Work around operating construction equipment, electrical systems, industrial machinery, and other potential jobsite hazards. Work in environments involving elevated noise levels, dust, wind, rain, snow, heat, cold, and varying lighting conditions. Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all project safety requirements. This position is considered safety-sensitive and requires consistent adherence to project safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
