Job Description

Assistant Director - Metro Kids Club (Highland, IL) Full-Time $19/hour Open Availability Required Metro Kids Club (MKC) is a high‑flexibility, all‑inclusive childcare program serving families who need extended hours, weekend options, and consistent, high‑quality care. We are seeking a Full-Time Assistant Director to support daily operations at our Highland location. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, confident in leading staff, and passionate about creating a safe, welcoming environment for children and families.
Position Summary:
The Assistant Director supports the Site Director in all aspects of daily operations, including compliance, programming, staff supervision, parent communication, safety, and site organization. This role helps maintain MKC's high standards for reliability, cleanliness, and quality service.
Responsibilities:
Program & Compliance Support DCFS licensing compliance and CACFP meal service requirements Maintain accurate attendance, incident reports, and safety documentation Lead daily programming, transitions, and behavior management Serve as acting Site Director when assigned Leadership & Staff Support Supervise Group Leaders and Program Aides Provide coaching, modeling, and support to staff Assist with onboarding, training, and staff development Help maintain staffing levels to support required ratios Parent & Community Engagement Greet families and support daily parent communication Communicate updates, minor incidents, and concerns professionally Build positive relationships with school and community partners Cleaning, Maintenance & Safety Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment Participate in daily cleaning routines Ensure equipment and supplies are stocked and in good condition Uphold MKC safety protocols and emergency procedures Brand Protection & Operating Hours Support consistent opening/closing procedures Assist with staffing coverage to prevent closures Communicate proactively about staffing or operational risks
Qualifications:
Minimum 19 years of age (DCFS requirement) High school diploma or GED required Experience in childcare, recreation, education, or youth programming Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills Ability to supervise staff and lead groups of children Certified Food Protection Manager (or willingness to obtain within 90 days) Must pass all DCFS background checks and health/safety requirements Open availability required (evenings, school breaks, and occasional weekends)
Physical Requirements:
Stand/walk for extended periods Lift up to 40 lbs Bend, stoop, kneel, and move quickly in emergencies Perform cleaning tasks as needed
