Job Description

As an established Chicagoland General Contractor since 1984, BEAR Construction Company is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to join our growing team. This role will oversee commercial construction projects across a variety of market sectors while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Position Overview The Superintendent will work closely with all members of the project team while overseeing daily field operations and supervising trade partners. The ideal candidate has experience managing commercial construction projects from start to finish, coordinating multiple trades, maintaining project schedules, and ensuring a safe and productive jobsite. Our Superintendents are highly organized, communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and thrive in fast-paced construction environments. Responsibilities Plan construction activities by developing schedules, project phasing plans, and look-ahead schedules. Oversee daily field operations and coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers. Maintain project schedules and monitor daily progress to ensure milestones are achieved. Purchase equipment and materials while tracking inventory and deliveries. Ensure the jobsite remains safe, clean, organized, and compliant with company safety standards. Coordinate equipment maintenance and site logistics. Identify and communicate field conflicts while proactively notifying the project team of potential impacts. Maintain accurate project documentation for internal and external stakeholders. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, subcontractors, owners, and inspectors to coordinate project activities. Establish performance expectations and deadlines for field personnel and trade partners. Monitor and report project progress, productivity, and quality. Support adherence to project budgets and overall profitability. Supervise field staff while providing coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback. Coordinate manpower requirements and subcontractor staffing. Schedule and coordinate required inspections with local authorities and project stakeholders. Resolve field issues and emergencies in a timely and professional manner. Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, quality, and regulatory requirements. Qualifications Previous experience as a Construction Superintendent or in a similar field leadership role. Experience managing commercial construction projects. Field experience, trade school education, or a degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred. Strong knowledge of construction operations, sequencing, scheduling, and project execution. Familiarity with local building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards. Understanding of labor tracking and project cost management practices. Experience with mobile construction management software platforms. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills. Strong leadership abilities with the ability to motivate and develop teams. OSHA 30 Certification required.
