Job Title:
MEP Superintendent Job Description The MEP Superintendent will lead and oversee all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, HVAC, and specialty systems for a designated building on a large-scale data center construction project in Columbus, OH. This field-based leader will serve as the primary point of contact for all MEP-related activities, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and in alignment with project quality and design standards. The role offers the opportunity to manage complex technical building systems on a mission critical facility from installation through commissioning and turnover. Responsibilities Lead all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, HVAC, and specialty system activities for an assigned building on a large-scale data center project. Coordinate and manage MEP subcontractors, ensuring clear direction, effective communication, and alignment with project goals. Monitor installation progress across all MEP scopes and proactively address schedule risks and field constraints. Resolve field issues related to MEP systems by collaborating with subcontractors, design teams, and project management. Support and oversee quality control efforts to ensure all building systems are installed in accordance with design requirements, specifications, and industry standards. Partner closely with project management teams to drive successful project execution from initial installation through commissioning and turnover. Maintain schedule commitments by sequencing MEP work effectively and coordinating with other trades in a vertical construction environment. Enforce safety expectations and jobsite protocols for all MEP activities, promoting a culture of safe work practices. Support commissioning, startup, and turnover processes for all MEP systems, including testing, documentation, and issue resolution. Lead subcontractor meetings and drive field coordination efforts to ensure all trades are aligned on scope, schedule, and technical requirements. Review, read, and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and MEP-related documents to guide field installation and coordination. Utilize construction management software and scheduling tools to track progress, manage activities, and report status to project stakeholders. Collaborate daily with project management, subcontractors, and client stakeholders in a fast-paced mission critical construction environment. Provide full oversight of all MEP scopes for the assigned building, ensuring systems are operating per design requirements at project turnover. Essential Skills Minimum of 7+ years of construction superintendent experience with a strong focus on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Proven experience overseeing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, HVAC, and specialty subcontractors on large-scale projects. Demonstrated ability to manage all MEP scopes for large commercial, industrial, or mission critical projects. Strong understanding of installation sequencing, commissioning, coordination, and quality control for building systems. Experience working for either a general contractor or an MEP contractor in a field supervision capacity. Experience supporting mission critical, data center, industrial, or manufacturing construction projects. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and MEP documentation. Experience leading subcontractor meetings and driving field coordination efforts among multiple trades. Knowledge of commissioning, startup, and turnover processes for complex building systems. Proficiency with construction management software and scheduling tools (preferred). Willingness and ability to travel as required by project needs. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in construction management within vertical construction environments. Experience with mission critical facilities such as data centers and industrial or manufacturing projects. Hands-on familiarity with MEP coordination, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection systems. Exposure to automotive, manufacturing, and industrial construction settings is beneficial. Ability to collaborate effectively with an industry-leading general contractor and diverse project teams. Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence subcontractors and drive project outcomes. Detail-oriented approach to quality, safety, and documentation throughout installation and commissioning. Comfort working in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment with complex technical requirements. Work Environment This is a field-based position supporting a large-scale data center construction project in Columbus, OH. The MEP Superintendent will have full oversight of all MEP scopes for a single building within a mission critical facility. The environment is fast-paced and highly collaborative, requiring daily coordination with project management teams, subcontractors, and client stakeholders. Typical workweeks are approximately 50 hours, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work based on project demands. Travel home schedules vary by project and are arranged in coordination with the site lead. The role involves extensive time on an active construction site, working with modern construction management software, scheduling tools, and technical equipment to manage complex mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, and specialty systems. Per diem support is available for qualified travelers, making this an attractive opportunity for professionals who enjoy leading high-impact, mission critical projects. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Detroit, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $75.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
