Job description: R.W. Mercer Co. is a family-owned construction and service company headquartered in Jackson, Michigan with seven locations - six in Michigan and one in Indiana. The company operates in three distinct areas of construction: petroleum contracting and service, general contracting, and electrical. In each area, R.W. Mercer provides a turn-key approach that includes planning, design, construction, and installation as well as service, monitoring, and maintenance. A General Construction Superintendent at R.W. Mercer is responsible for the execution of all aspects of installation and construction on-site. Construction of infrastructure requires constant supervision to ensure that the construction is happening as per plan. In addition, there is a need for keeping watch on the construction material on site and further requirements. They are a site superintendent who coordinates and manages all the activities on a construction site. Key Requirements Perform hands-on construction work and supervise job site activities. Maintain safe, clean, and organized work sites. Oversee excavation, trenching, scaffolding, ladders, material handling, and storage. Read and interpret blueprints, scopes of work, and submittals. Lead crews, subcontractors, and project activities from start to finish. Strong problem-solving, communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Skilled in drywall, framing, finish carpentry, ceilings, flooring, doors/hardware, concrete patching, caulking, bathroom accessories, and minor plumbing. Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Procore. Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and committed to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities Safety & Quality Ensure compliance with all safety policies and conduct safety meetings. Perform jobsite inspections, Job Hazard Assessments, and quality control reviews. Address safety concerns and maintain regulatory compliance. Project Management & Coordination Coordinate schedules, labor, materials, equipment, permits, and subcontractors. Monitor project budgets, timelines, and progress with Project Managers and Operations. Manage subcontractor performance and maintain supplier relationships. Leadership & Communication Supervise and train field personnel while promoting company values. Communicate project updates, changes, and issues to stakeholders. Complete daily reports, documentation, photos, inspections, and punch lists. Manage customer expectations and ensure successful project completion. Participate in after-hours/on-call service as needed. Qualifications High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. Minimum 5 years of construction/restoration experience preferred 2-3 years of project budget management experience. Ability to travel Clean driving record and ability to operate company vehicles. Retail construction experience preferred.
