Job Description
Foundation SuperintendentPosition Overview We are seeking an experienced Foundation Superintendent to lead and oversee all foundation and subsurface construction activities on heavy civil and infrastructure projects. The Foundation Superintendent will be responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising foundation crews and subcontractors to ensure safe, on-time completion of pile driving, drilling, caissons, footings and other foundation systems while maintaining quality, cost control and compliance with project specifications and regulatory requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesPlan, coordinate and supervise day-to-day foundation construction activities including drilling, piling, caissons, footings and other foundation systems.
Direct and manage onsite crews and subcontractors to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently and to project specifications.
Coordinate site logistics including equipment mobilization, material deliveries, staging, traffic control and access to drilling locations.
Monitor drilling operations and foundation system installation to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, geotechnical reports and construction tolerances.
Implement and enforce safety and environmental programs; conduct daily safety briefings, site inspections and corrective actions to maintain an incident-free worksite.
Perform quality control inspections, verify elevations and alignment, and ensure proper concrete placement, reinforcement and grouting procedures.
Develop and maintain project schedules, track progress, identify delays and coordinate mitigation with project management to meet milestones.
Prepare daily reports, logs, subcontractor performance documentation and communicate progress to the project team and stakeholders.
Troubleshoot field issues related to subsurface conditions, equipment failures or unforeseen obstacles and coordinate solutions with engineers and project leadership.
Provide training, mentorship and performance feedback to field staff to build capable, safety-focused teams.
QualificationsMinimum 7+ years of construction experience with substantial experience in foundations and foundation systems (piles, caissons, drilled shafts, footings).Proven superintendent or lead field supervisory experience on heavy civil, infrastructure or large commercial projects (preferred).Strong knowledge of drilling operations, pile driving equipment, grout and concrete placement procedures and geotechnical considerations.
Experience managing site logistics for heavy equipment and foundation operations including mobilization and traffic control.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, geotechnical reports, and engineering specifications.
Demonstrated commitment to safety with current OSHA 30 certification; First Aid/CPR and other relevant safety certifications preferred.
Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills with experience coordinating subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams.
Proficient in preparing daily reports, schedules and field documentation; familiarity with common construction management software is a plus.
Valid drivers license and the ability to work full-time onsite; willingness to travel between job sites as required.
Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field is desirable but not required; equivalent field experience will be considered.
