A Leadership Opportunity for an Experienced Construction Professional We are a growing, established construction company with an active pipeline of residential and commercial projects. We are looking for an experienced construction professional who is ready to take on a true leadership role and become a key part of the company's next stage of growth. This is not a traditional Project Manager position. We are looking for someone who can step in, take ownership, and help run the day-to- day construction operation. The right person will have the experience, confidence, relationships, and practical construction knowledge to walk into an active project and immediately begin making things happen. Our current executive leadership is moving into another position focused on the growing development side of the company. This transition creates an opportunity for a strong construction leader to take ownership of the company's existing construction operations while also helping position the company for additional future construction work. This is an opportunity for the right person to make a difference. We are looking for someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves, take a hands-on and entrepreneurial approach, be accountable, and do whatever it takes to get the job done right. Someone who sees a problem and solves it. Someone who knows the local subcontractor and supplier community. Someone who can walk onto a jobsite, understand what is happening, talk to the trades, talk to the client, make a decision, and move the project forward. Someone who doesn't need to be told what to do every day.
What You'll Do:
As Director of Construction & Operations, you will have significant responsibility for the company's active construction projects and day-to-day operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
Take ownership of active construction projects and quickly establish control of schedule, budget, quality, communication, and overall execution. Manage and coordinate project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, vendors and suppliers. Work directly with clients to maintain strong relationships and ensure expectations are being met. Review project schedules and identify potential problems before they become problems. Coordinate subcontractors and suppliers and maintain productive relationships throughout the local construction community. Obtain and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing, help establish appropriate scopes of work, and determine the materials and resources required for each project. Assist with estimating, budgeting, purchasing, and project planning. Monitor project costs, change orders, schedules, and profitability. Help establish and maintain consistent construction processes and standards. Visit job sites regularly and remain actively involved in field operations. Resolve construction issues quickly and effectively. Coordinate materials, selections, deliveries and subcontractor schedules. Work with clients on finish selections and project decisions when necessary. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, profitability and customer satisfaction. Help recruit, develop and manage additional construction personnel as the company grows. Provide regular updates to the CEO regarding project status, financial performance, staffing and issues requiring executive attention. Help build the systems, relationships and team necessary to support significant company growth. Take responsibility for getting projects completed on time, on budget and to our quality standards. In Short You will be expected to take ownership. We are looking for someone who can help assume these responsibilities in a shorter-than-usual transition period. The right person will have the experience and confidence to quickly understand our projects, people, and processes and begin making a meaningful impact. Just as importantly, we are looking for someone whose personality and leadership style will work well with our employees, clients, and subcontractors. You should be firm but fair—someone who can establish clear expectations, hold people accountable, address performance issues when necessary, and still maintain strong professional relationships.
The ideal candidate will have:
8+ years of construction experience, with significant responsibility for managing projects and people. Proven experience managing construction projects from start to finish. Strong knowledge of construction practices, scheduling, estimating, and project budgets. Established relationships with local subcontractors, suppliers and trades. Excellent communication and people skills. The ability to work directly with homeowners, commercial clients, architects, designers and subcontractors. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. The confidence to make decisions and take responsibility for those decisions. The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. A strong understanding of project profitability and cost control. A willingness to spend significant time in the field rather than managing everything from a desk.
