Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Public Works Superintendent to lead and oversee municipal infrastructure projects and public works operations. This vital role involves managing construction activities, supervising teams, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and coordinating project schedules to deliver high-quality public services efficiently. The ideal candidate will possess strong construction management skills, extensive site experience, and a passion for maintaining and improving community infrastructure through innovative leadership and meticulous project oversight. Duties Lead and supervise public works construction projects, including roads, bridges, pipelines, and other municipal infrastructure. Manage project schedules using construction management software such as Primavera P6 and Procore to ensure timely completion. Oversee the review of construction drawings, technical specifications, and blueprints to guarantee accuracy and compliance with project requirements. Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and internal teams to develop project budgets, bids, and contracts utilizing tools like Prolog and HeavyBid. Ensure all work adheres to federal, state, and local construction safety regulations including OSHA standards; enforce safety protocols on-site. Supervise crews in the field, managing daily operations, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and maintaining quality control standards. Review construction schedules regularly for accuracy; adjust plans as needed to meet project milestones while managing resources effectively. Conduct site inspections using tools such as ohmmeters for electrical testing; interpret technical drawings for proper installation and compliance. Oversee procurement processes, manage contracts, and ensure adherence to construction regulations and budget constraints. Maintain comprehensive documentation of project activities, safety records, inspection reports, and progress updates. Qualifications Proven experience in heavy civil or municipal construction management with a strong background in public works projects. Extensive knowledge of construction site operations including blueprint reading, technical drawing review, and project scheduling. Proficiency with construction management software such as Primavera P6, Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P3 (Primavera), Prolog, HeavyBid; familiarity with construction safety management tools is a plus. Strong supervisory skills with experience managing diverse teams in a fast-paced environment; excellent managerial communication abilities. Familiarity with federal construction safety regulations (OSHA) and local construction regulations; commitment to maintaining a safe work environment. Ability to interpret technical drawings accurately; experience supervising pipeline projects or large-scale infrastructure is desirable. Knowledge of budgeting processes related to public works projects; ability to manage contracts effectively while ensuring quality standards are met. Construction site experience including supervision of crews engaged in commercial or municipal infrastructure development. Valid certifications in OSHA safety standards; additional certifications such as First Aid/CPR are advantageous.
