Job Description

About Bayview Garden Nurseries Bayview Garden Nurseries has been South Jersey's most trusted name in landscape design, installation, and maintenance since 1952. Founded by Harry and Betty Cummings and now led by the second and third generations of the same family, we operate from our 8-acre campus in Northfield with a second location in Avalon. We serve residential clients across Atlantic, Cape May, and Burlington counties with craftsmanship and integrity that has been our hallmark for over 70 years. We are growing, and that growth is creating real opportunities for experienced leaders who want to build something. This is one of them. The Role The Landscape Construction Manager is the operational leader of Bayview's construction division. This role owns the full lifecycle of every installation and hardscape project — from pre-construction planning through final walk-through — and is responsible for the performance of the construction crews, the quality of the finished work, and the financial health of the division. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires equal comfort in the field, in the office, and across the table from a client. What You Will Do Project & Production Management Oversee all landscape construction and hardscape installation projects from pre-construction through completion, on time, on budget, and to Bayview's quality standards. Develop build sequences, site plans, and daily production strategies for active projects. Conduct jobsite inspections before, during, and after construction; manage punch lists and post-construction reviews. Coordinate subcontractors, trades, materials, and equipment across multiple active job sites simultaneously. Solve technical issues on active sites and ensure proper installation methods are followed at all times. Supervise or operate construction equipment including skid steers, excavators, and trenchers as needed. Follow NJ 811 protocols and ensure proper mark-outs before any digging begins. Estimating & Financial Management Assist with and approve bidding and cost estimating for installation projects; prepare take-off reports covering materials and labor. Manage the Construction Division P&L; track and report KPIs including gross profit, labor hours, and production rates. Ensure accurate job setup, contract billing, change orders, and purchase orders. Evaluate cost effectiveness and recommend improvements to estimating procedures. People & Team Leadership Lead, coach, and develop construction staff and Foremen; conduct hiring, training, performance evaluations, and corrective action as needed. Hold crews accountable for production and financial targets while maintaining Bayview's standards of quality and professionalism. Lead weekly construction division safety meetings; ensure OSHA compliance and jobsite safety at all times. Client & Cross-Department Communication Communicate proactively with clients about project schedules, progress, and any challenges that arise. Coordinate with the design, sales, and office teams to ensure client expectations are met throughout every project. Participate in pre-construction planning and project hand-off meetings; review specifications, plans, and scopes of work before mobilization. What We Are Looking For 5 or more years of progressive experience in residential landscape construction, hardscape installation, or a closely related field, including at least 2 years in a leadership role. Demonstrated knowledge of hardscape construction — patios, retaining walls, walkways, water features —and softscape installation practices. Experience managing project budgets, reading job cost reports, and holding crews accountable to production targets. Strong ability to read and interpret landscape plans, design drawings, and specifications. Proven ability to lead and develop field crews in a fast-paced, multi-project environment. Working knowledge of jobsite safety requirements and OSHA standards. Valid New Jersey driver's license with a clean driving record.
