Job Description

Director of Construction Operations Location:
Summit, New Jersey Compensation:
$120,000-$140,000 base + bonus About the Role We're looking for a Director of Construction Operations to take ownership of day-to-day execution for a growing organization in the construction services space. This role is less about being a career construction expert and more about being an exceptional operational leader . We need someone who can lead people, establish clear expectations, hold teams accountable, manage competing priorities, and make sure work gets done on time and to standard. The right person will be comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment where multiple projects are happening at once, priorities change, and problems need to be solved quickly. You'll bring structure, discipline, and accountability to the operation while developing a team capable of executing without constant oversight. A military leadership background is strongly preferred , particularly for candidates who have led teams, managed complex operations, and been responsible for execution in high-accountability environments.
What You'll Own Operational Execution:
Turn plans into action and ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to standard.
Accountability:
Establish clear expectations, follow up consistently, and hold people accountable for results.
Team Leadership:
Lead, organize, coach, and develop the people responsible for delivering the work.
Project Oversight:
Maintain visibility across multiple active projects and ensure resources are aligned against priorities.
Scheduling & Timelines:
Keep work moving, anticipate constraints, and address problems before they become missed deadlines.
Performance Management:
Establish and track KPIs that create visibility into productivity, quality, timelines, and overall operational performance.
Resource Planning:
Look ahead at upcoming work and ensure the organization has the people, equipment, and capacity required to execute.
Process Improvement:
Identify recurring operational problems and build practical systems and processes to solve them.
Cross-Functional Coordination:
Work closely with leadership, field teams, project management, sales, and other functions to keep everyone aligned. What We're Looking For We care more about leadership ability, operational discipline, and execution than a specific industry background.
The ideal candidate:
Has significant experience leading teams and holding people accountable. Has operated in environments where timelines and standards matter. Can manage multiple priorities without losing sight of the details. Is comfortable making decisions with incomplete information. Can establish structure without creating unnecessary bureaucracy. Understands how to set expectations, measure performance, and follow through. Can identify whether a problem is related to people, process, or training—and take action accordingly. Communicates clearly and directly across all levels of an organization. Is willing to be hands-on and close to the operation rather than managing entirely from an office. Military Background Military leadership experience is strongly preferred. We're particularly interested in veterans who have: Led teams in operational environments. Managed personnel, equipment, timelines, and competing priorities. Planned and executed complex operations. Been accountable for both the mission and the development of their people. Worked in environments where standards were clear and follow-through mattered. A construction background can be helpful, but it is not required for the right operational leader .
