In Person The Opportunity Byers Industrial Services is seeking a Construction Layout & Field Planning Coordinator associate to support a large-scale data center construction project in Vineland, New Jersey. This position will help our project teams identify, document, and physically mark areas throughout the jobsite showing where existing installations are located and where future construction is planned.
Typical scopes may include:
Underground electrical conduit Electrical duct banks Drainage systems Underground utilities and piping Excavation and trench areas Equipment installation areas Civil, electrical, and mechanical construction Working from construction drawings, AutoCAD files, digital plans, field conditions, and information provided by project leadership, you will help field crews understand what is already installed, where future work needs to go, and where potential conflicts may exist before construction begins. This is a construction layout, field planning, and project coordination position—not a professional land surveying or boundary surveying role. We Are Willing to Train the Right Person This is an early-career opportunity, and we do not expect candidates to have years of construction layout experience. We're looking for someone who is tech-savvy, organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working with computers, familiar with AutoCAD, capable with Microsoft Excel, and interested in learning construction. Candidates with backgrounds in CAD, drafting, construction technology, engineering technology, project coordination, or other technical fields are encouraged to apply. Key Responsibilities Review construction drawings, site plans, electrical drawings, civil drawings, and underground utility plans Walk active construction areas to identify existing installations and field conditions Physically mark areas of the jobsite where existing installations are located Mark areas where future construction and installations are planned Assist with field planning for underground electrical, drainage, utility, piping, and other construction activities Provide clear visual identification of upcoming work areas for field crews and project leadership Compare planned installations against existing field conditions Help identify potential conflicts between existing infrastructure and future construction Communicate discrepancies or potential conflicts to project leadership before installation Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, engineers, foremen, and field personnel Use AutoCAD to review drawings and project information Use Microsoft Excel to organize, document, and track existing and future installations Assist with digital drawing markups and construction planning documentation Maintain records of field adjustments, layout changes, completed work, and upcoming installations Help keep project plans and field information current as construction progresses Learn and utilize additional construction technology and software as required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel Familiarity with AutoCAD Strong overall computer and technology skills Strong attention to detail and accuracy Good organizational and documentation skills Comfortable working with measurements and technical information Ability and willingness to learn how to read civil, electrical, and construction drawings Ability to communicate effectively with field crews and project leadership Comfortable working both on a computer and in the field Ability to work outdoors on an active construction site Ability to walk and stand for extended periods Ability to work extended hours and weekends based on project requirements Willingness to learn construction terminology, planning processes, and field operations OSHA 10 Construction certification is preferred. Preferred Experience Previous construction experience is helpful but not required. Experience or education in any of the following is a plus: CAD / AutoCAD Drafting Construction or engineering technology Construction project coordination Civil or electrical construction Underground utilities Site development Construction plan or blueprint reading Bluebeam Procore Recent graduates and early-career candidates with strong technical skills are encouraged to apply. Field & Work Environment This is not a desk-only position. You will regularly move between digital project information and the active construction site.
A typical day may involve:
Review Plans → Coordinate Upcoming Work → Walk the Project → Mark Existing & Future Installations → Document Changes → Update Project Information Candidates should be comfortable working around active construction activities, including underground electrical work, excavations, trenches, utilities, concrete operations, and heavy equipment, as well as working outdoors on uneven construction-site terrain. Schedule, Overtime & Travel The project is currently operating on a 7-day, 12-hour schedule (7/12s). 60-70+ hours per week Significant overtime opportunities Individual schedules may vary depending on project coverage and operational requirements Extended shifts and weekend work may be required $150/day per diem, paid 7 days per week for eligible travelers Up to $1,050 per week in per diem for eligible travelers Traveling candidates must be willing and able to temporarily relocate to the Vineland, NJ area for the duration of the project.
