Construction Foreman in Training Job Description The Construction Foreman in Training is an entry-level field leadership role designed to prepare high-potential construction professionals for a future foreman position. This role provides hands-on training in project management, crew leadership, safety compliance, quality control, scheduling, and client relations. Working closely with experienced Foremen, Superintendents, and Project Managers, the Foreman in Training develops the skills needed to successfully lead construction and infrastructure repair projects while upholding high standards of safety, productivity, professionalism, and quality. Responsibilities Learn and demonstrate the companys leadership principles and culture while actively participating in leadership development activities. Assist Foremen in supervising field crews and daily operations, supporting effective crew coordination and task assignment. Develop strong communication and team-building skills to promote accountability, professionalism, and positive morale among team members. Participate in leadership training, coaching, and performance evaluations to build future foreman capabilities. Support implementation of company safety programs and policies on active job sites. Participate in Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and daily safety briefings, reinforcing a safety-first culture. Identify and report unsafe conditions, behaviors, or equipment, and help ensure corrective actions are taken. Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and learn OSHA and company safety requirements relevant to construction activities. Assist with project pre-planning and daily work planning, including organizing labor, materials, and equipment. Learn to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project layouts to support accurate field execution. Support job layout, mobilization, and demobilization activities to ensure efficient project start-up and closeout. Monitor production rates and manpower utilization, helping to maintain project schedules and meet production goals. Assist in maintaining project schedules, tracking progress, and communicating updates to supervisors. Learn proper material application procedures and quality assurance requirements for concrete, masonry, and related construction work. Assist with inspections and documentation to verify that work meets quality standards and project specifications. Support completion of project punch list items and corrective actions to ensure final acceptance of work. Ensure all work is completed according to company standards, plans, and specifications, with a focus on quality and durability. Assist with daily logs and project documentation, accurately recording work performed, manpower, and site conditions. Learn procedures for purchase orders, change orders, and extra work documentation to support proper project cost tracking. Support as-built documentation and recordkeeping, including updating plans and records to reflect completed work. Participate in project meetings and field reporting activities, contributing observations and updates from the job site. Inspect, maintain, and properly operate company equipment and vehicles, following established maintenance and safety procedures. Support inventory and material management activities, including receiving, tracking, and organizing materials and supplies. Ensure proper care, accountability, and security of company assets and resources on the job site. Develop professional communication skills when interacting with clients, inspectors, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors. Represent the company in a professional and courteous manner at all times, maintaining a high level of jobsite professionalism. Assist in maintaining positive customer relationships by responding to concerns, supporting project goals, and ensuring a clean, organized job site. Prepare and support 2-week look ahead schedules, coordinating upcoming work, resources, and dependencies. Complete Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and related safety documentation to proactively identify and mitigate risks. Support preparation of as-built drawings and documentation to accurately reflect completed field conditions. Read and interpret blueprints and construction plans to guide work activities and verify field conditions. Contribute to concrete repair, concrete restoration, and large-scale commercial and industrial projects, including work involving change orders. Essential Skills High school diploma or GED. 13 years of experience in construction, infrastructure repair, utility work, concrete, or a related field. Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions on active construction sites. Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment as required, including regularly lifting up to 50 pounds and heavier loads with assistance. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform physical labor for extended periods. Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated work areas, and active construction environments. Strong work ethic and willingness to learn and assume leadership responsibilities. Leadership potential with the ability to motivate and support others in a team setting. Strong communication and organizational skills for coordinating crews and documenting work. Problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address field challenges and changing conditions. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, specifications, and layout procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is preferred. Experience leading small crews or acting as a crew leader is preferred. Experience operating construction equipment is an advantage. Background in concrete, masonry, concrete repair, and concrete restoration work is beneficial. Experience on large-scale commercial or large-scale industrial construction projects is desirable. Familiarity with change order processes and documentation is a plus. Ability to prepare and manage 2-week look ahead schedules. Experience completing Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and safety documentation. Experience preparing and maintaining as-built documentation for completed projects. Clear understanding of project planning, documentation, quality control, and client relations to support future promotion into a foreman role. Demonstrated potential to grow into a leadership position with increasing autonomy and responsibility. Work Environment This role is based on site five days a week in a field construction environment, primarily supporting projects local to the NJ and NYC areas. Work takes place on active construction sites focused on concrete, masonry, concrete repair, concrete restoration, and large-scale commercial and industrial projects. The position involves regular outdoor work in varying weather conditions, as well as tasks performed in confined spaces and elevated work areas. The environment is fast-paced and safety-focused, with daily safety briefings, Job Hazard Analyses, and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment. The role includes frequent use of construction tools, equipment, vehicles, and basic construction technology for documentation and reporting. Team members typically wear appropriate construction attire and PPE suitable for an active job site.
