Job Description

Construction Superintendent - Custom Homes & Renovations McComsey Builders | Chester County, PA McComsey Builders is looking for an experienced, hands-on Construction Superintendent to lead custom homes, major renovations, additions, historic properties, barns, and other highly detailed residential projects throughout Chester County and the surrounding area. We are looking for someone who genuinely loves construction and takes pride in building things correctly. This is not a position for someone who wants to manage construction entirely from a truck, phone, or laptop. We need a superintendent who has spent significant time in the field, understands how a building goes together from foundation through finish, can read plans, lead trades and carpenters, anticipate problems before they happen, and recognize quality workmanship. You will work closely with our Project Manager, who manages contracts, financials, purchasing, and overall project administration. Your primary responsibility is to own the jobsite and make sure the project gets built correctly, safely, efficiently, and to our quality standards. What You'll Do Lead the daily operation of one or more residential construction projects from startup through punch list and completion. Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, and McComsey Builders field employees. Build and maintain a three-week look-ahead schedule and make sure trades, manpower, materials, selections, and inspections are ready when needed. Read and understand architectural drawings, structural plans, specifications, and selections. Review upcoming work before construction begins and identify missing information, conflicts, or constructability problems. Inspect workmanship continuously and catch problems before they become expensive mistakes . Maintain high quality standards for framing, waterproofing, exterior details, windows and doors, cabinetry, trim, tile, flooring, paint, and finish work. Hold subcontractors and employees accountable for quality, schedule, cleanliness, and professionalism. Communicate clearly with the Project Manager regarding schedule issues, field conditions, change-order work, missing selections, client questions, and potential problems. Be a professional on-site representative of McComsey Builders with homeowners, architects, designers, engineers, inspectors, and trade partners. Complete daily JobTread logs with progress notes and photographs . Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and professional jobsite. Coordinate inspections and make sure work complies with plans, specifications, manufacturer requirements, and applicable codes. Drive projects through closeout with an organized punch list and a high-quality finished product. Be willing to pick up a tool, demonstrate the proper way to perform work, or help solve a difficult field condition when necessary. What We're Looking For 8+ years of residential construction experience preferred. Several years of experience leading projects, crews, or trades as a Superintendent, Lead Carpenter, Foreman, Site Supervisor, Construction Manager, or similar role. A genuine hands-on construction background , preferably carpentry, framing, finish carpentry, or general residential construction. Experience with custom homes, major additions, high-end renovations, historic structures, or similarly detailed residential work. Strong understanding of residential construction sequencing. Ability to read architectural and structural drawings and identify conflicts before work is installed. Excellent attention to detail and high standards for craftsmanship. Strong planning, organization, and problem-solving ability. Ability to manage subcontractors and field employees firmly and professionally. Ability to communicate well with demanding homeowners and professional design teams. Comfortable using a smartphone or tablet for schedules, photos, email, plans, and project documentation. Experience with JobTread, Buildertrend, CoConstruct, Procore, Bluebeam, or similar construction software is helpful but not required. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. The Person We Want We can teach our software and company systems. We are looking for someone who already understands how to build . You should be the person who walks a project and naturally notices when something isn't right—a framing detail doesn't match the plans, flashing is installed incorrectly, trim doesn't align, a subcontractor missed part of their scope, or a decision needs to be made today so the next trade isn't delayed. You plan ahead instead of constantly reacting. You hold people accountable without creating unnecessary drama. You take pride in the details because your reputation is attached to the finished product. And when you drive past something you built years ago, you're still proud to point it out. This Position May Not Be a Fit If You prefer managing construction primarily from the office or your truck. You have management experience but very little hands-on understanding of residential construction. Detailed schedules, daily logs, photographs, and documentation feel like unnecessary paperwork. You are comfortable accepting work that is merely "good enough." Compensation $85,000-$120,000 per year , depending on experience, demonstrated capabilities, and the level of project responsibility you can take on. Additional compensation and benefits will be discussed based on experience and the position.
