Job description: The Director of Construction will lead the end-to-end delivery of fiber network construction programs across multiple markets. This role provides management oversight of all construction operations, ensuring project execution aligns with business goals, timelines, and safety standards. The Director will manage multiple Project Managers, standardize processes across markets, and drive performance, quality, and innovation in the field.Primary Responsibilities:
Lead and develop a high-performing field operations team, including Project Managers and regional crews. Oversee all fiber construction projects, both underground and aerial, ensuring safety, quality, and timely delivery. Set department KPIs, track performance metrics, and optimize operational efficiency across active markets. Align construction strategy with business objectives, including market expansion plans and client requirements. Develop scalable frameworks for project execution, including build methodologies, resource planning, and risk mitigation. Partner with Engineering, Permitting, and Procurement to streamline cross-functional workflows. Drive consistency in build standards, safety protocols, material usage, and documentation across all teams. Implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs, shorten build cycles, and enhance field productivity. Own field operations budget forecasting, allocation, and tracking across multiple regions. Manage subcontractor contracts, labor planning, equipment procurement, and material forecasting. Champion job site safety and regulatory compliance across all projects. Oversee QA/QC frameworks and field audits; ensure redlines, as-builts, and LLDs are accurate and complete. Ensure all projects meet federal, state, and local permitting requirements. Serve as the executive point of contact for municipalities, utilities, and key project stakeholders. Communicate regularly with internal leadership, providing reports on timelines, risks, budgets, and escalations. Represent Graycliff at industry events and strategic partner meetings. Lead the bidding effort on new opportunities. This is a remote position with frequent visits to market offices. Successful candidate must be located in North Carolina or South Carolina.Requirements:
Must have a basic command of the English language to understand the safety requirements of the position. 10+ years of experience in telecom construction or field operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing large-scale fiber deployments. Deep knowledge of both aerial and underground fiber construction methods, including implementation costs. Proven experience managing multi-region teams and subcontractor networks. Experience as a Project Manager. Strong financial acumen, with experience owning operational budgets and contractor agreements. Expert understanding of permitting processes, utility coordination, and ROW management. Familiarity with Microsoft Office software suite, construction reporting software, and scheduling tools. Ability to lead cross-functional teams, resolve field escalations, and mentor senior-level staff. Ability to read, analyze and write business correspondence/proposals.Preferred Qualifications:
BA/BS Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field and/or equivalent experience Experience leading multi-state or regional broadband infrastructure programs. Strong background in public-private partnerships or utility coordination at an executive level. Proven success in developing scalable construction strategies and process improvements. Familiarity with enterprise-level platforms such as Vitruvi, Sitetracker, Primavera, Power BI, or ERP systems. PMP certification. OSHA 30, or executive-level safety training. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.Work Location:
