Full-Time-40hrs-45hrs / week - On-Site Job Summary The Director of Construction Services leads and oversees the construction operations of a design-build firm delivering projects for both public sector agencies and private sector clients throughout the Washington, DC metro area. This role is responsible for the successful execution of construction projects from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, quality and safety standards while managing project teams, subcontractor relationships and client and agency communications. The Director works closely with the design divisions of the company to ensure seamless design-to-build delivery and serves as a senior leader in the firm's construction operations, financial performance, and business development efforts. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all active construction projects from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring adherence to project budgets, schedules, and quality standards.
  • Serve as the senior point of contact for the public agency representatives and private sector clients on construction execution matters.
  • Manage, mentor, and evaluate project managers, superintendents, and field staff across the project portfolio.
  • Review and approve project schedules, budgets, change orders, and AIA billing submissions.
  • Ensure compliance with public sector contracting requirements, including regulations, certified payroll, prevailing wage, and bonding/insurance requirements, as well as private client contract terms.
  • Lead subcontractor prequalification, bidding, negotiation, and contract award processes.
  • Coordinate with the architecture and design teams to ensure constructability and a smooth transition from design to construction.
  • Oversee jobsite safety programs and ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable safety regulations.
  • Monitor project financial performance, job costing, and variance reporting, and report on portfolio status to executive leadership.
  • Manage project risk, resolve disputes or claims, and oversee close-out documentation and warranty processes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with the contracting officers, inspectors, and private sector clients.
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal input, capability statements, and client presentations.
  • Establish and continuously improve construction standard operating procedures, templates, and reporting tools across the company. Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 15+ years of progressive construction management experience, including direct experience with public sector projects.
  • Proven track record in design-build project delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of AIA contract documents and billing procedures (G702/G703), along with construction accounting and job costing principles.
  • Familiarity with public sector procurement processes, certified payroll, prevailing wage requirements, and public contract compliance.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience overseeing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Solid financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and variance analysis.
  • Skilled in negotiation, subcontractor management, and vendor relationship management.
  • Proficiency with construction management/scheduling software.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA safety regulations and construction risk management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with clients, government officials, and internal teams.
  • PMP, CAPM, or OSHA 30 certification is a plus.
