Experienced superintendents and foreman are very skillful and knowledgeable in all aspects construction allowing them to plan and ensure coordination of construction projects. Superintendents and foreman are responsible for supervising the job, ensuring the quality of work and materials, ensures workers and subcontractors are implementing what is on the design plan and in the specifications, monitors workers, subcontractors, and the progress of the project. The superintendent reports to the field operations coordinator and the Vice President of Construction Management and the project manager, while the Foreman reports to the Superintendent, Field Operations Coordinator and Project Manager. The superintendent and foreman can have direct communications/dealings with the client, city officials and inspectors. The superintendents and foremen are held responsible for any happenings at the construction site and strives to complete the project on time and within budget.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Assess job priorities and assign/coordinate to workers and/or subcontractors Make sure workers have the appropriate materials, tools and equipment to perform the work and ensure quality output Make sure all safety precautions, procedures, rules and regulations are followed by workers and subcontractors Assist with training and teaching workers Provide clear directions to avoid repetitive mistakes Determine the quickest and easiest way to complete job without jeopardizing quality and safety Inspect and ensure work is being performed and completed in conformance with drawings and specs Monitor and oversee all functions of the construction process General inspection of workers and subcontractor's performance Schedule, maintain and coordinate subcontractors, inspections, and materials for the project Maintain sound working relationships among workers, customer, contractors, and suppliers Watch for hazardous working conditions and remedy immediately Must be able to perform layout to ensure correct location of structures Identify, evaluate, develop, and implement solutions to complex problems Knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and equipment involved in construction Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principals involved in the production of blueprints and drawings Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service and meeting quality standards for services Maintain a safe and clean working environment Must be able to determine dimensions and materials required Must be able to measure, shape and cut materials to specified measurements Must know how to install structures or fixtures and verify trueness of structure and/or fixture Must know how to remove damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace Must know how to construct forms or chutes for pouring concrete Must know how to erect scaffolding or ladders for assembling structures above ground level Must know how to assemble or fasten materials Maintain accurate records and progress reports Operate vehicles, mechanized devices, or equipment Perform general physical activities that require use of arms, legs and movement of whole body including but not limited to climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and stooping Handling, moving and/or manipulating objects or materials
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Must have experience and knowledge of tools and equipment used in construction Must have experience and knowledge of construction processes Must have problem solving and critical thinking skills and the ability to identify, evaluate and implement options and/or alternatives to resolve issues and time-consuming obstacles Must have ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of individuals Must possess leadership skills and ability to supervise Must be organized and have the ability to coordinate and multi-task Must have the ability to read and understand blueprints, specifications, regulations and building codes Must be able to prioritize work and assign as necessary Must be able to train and teach workers the correct processes in construction Must be able to determine the kinds of equipment and tools needed to perform work Must have good time management skills Must have email knowledge and some computer knowledge Must have CPR and First Aid certifications/training Must have basic knowledge of building codes, requirements and regulations Must be able to have daily discussions with team members, clients, subs and suppliers on a daily basis Must be willing to obtain OSHA 30 hour certification in construction Must know how to run equipment and be willing to step in and help when necessary
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent desired 4 years of prior work experience in building construction trade required 2 years of supervisory experience in building construction trade required 1-4 years of college or vocational course work in area of construction or closely related field desired
