Job Description

Job Title:
Superintendent Job Description This Superintendent role supports the construction of buildings that house critical mechanical components on a major infrastructure project in the Hampton Roads area. You will oversee day-to-day field operations, coordinate subcontractors and trades, and work closely with the end client and project team to deliver the project safely, on schedule, and to the required quality standards. The position is best suited for a hands-on field leader with strong communication skills, a collaborative approach, and at least 8 years of superintendent experience on complex construction projects. Responsibilities Manage and supervise daily on-site construction activities for vertical structures that support mechanical systems. Coordinate and schedule subcontractors, vendors, and field crews to maintain productivity, proper sequencing, and efficient use of resources. Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules to guide field execution and resolve questions in the field. Ensure all work is performed in accordance with project plans, quality standards, and safety requirements. Lead daily huddles, toolbox talks, and coordination meetings to align crews, communicate priorities, and reinforce safety expectations. Interface professionally with the end client, inspectors, engineers, and project leadership to address issues, provide updates, and maintain strong working relationships. Monitor site progress and proactively address issues related to manpower, materials, equipment, or constructability that could affect schedule or quality. Enforce site safety policies and promote a strong safety culture across all trades and field personnel. Track work completion, document progress, and assist with look-ahead planning and short-interval schedules. Support ground-up building activities from initial stages through completion, ensuring effective trade coordination throughout the project. Essential Skills At least 8 years of experience as a Superintendent on commercial, industrial, or heavy civil construction projects. Proven experience with ground-up construction of buildings and vertical structures. Strong back ground overseeing vertical construction and coordinating multiple trades on complex job sites. Comfort working on projects involving mechanical or equipment-driven facilities and buildings. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules with a high degree of accuracy. Demonstrated ability to lead field teams and coordinate subcontractors and vendors effectively. Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients, inspectors, engineers, and project leadership. Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple activities and priorities simultaneously. Commitment to enforcing safety policies and maintaining a strong safety culture on site. Additional Skills & Qualifications OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training. Experience using Procore or similar construction management software platforms. back ground in construction management or a related field. Experience supervising ground-up building projects involving critical mechanical systems. Ability to lead daily huddles, toolbox talks, and coordination meetings in a clear and engaging manner. Experience collaborating closely with end clients and project partners on large infrastructure projects. Work Environment This is an on-site field-based role in the Hampton Roads area, working primarily Monday through Thursday on a four 10-hour shift schedule. You will spend most of your time on active construction sites overseeing vertical building work that supports mechanical and equipment-driven systems. The environment involves close coordination with subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, engineers, and project leadership, with frequent field meetings and daily safety discussions. You will work within a culture that emphasizes safety, quality, and collaboration, using tools such as Procore and other construction management technologies to track progress and coordinate activities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $110000.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
