Job Description Montez Group, Inc. is seeking a Special Inspector to perform field inspections and testing of construction materials, including soils and concrete, to verify compliance with project plans, specifications, and applicable building codes. This position involves working closely with owners, contractors, and project teams, preparing clear and accurate inspection reports, and supporting overall project quality. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction methods, building terminology, inspection procedures, and applicable state and local building codes. Key Responsibilities Perform field inspections on active construction sites to verify compliance with project plans, specifications, and applicable codes Perform field testing of construction materials, including soils and concrete Conduct routine laboratory testing, including compaction testing and concrete compressive strength testing Prepare clear and accurate daily inspection reports, test reports, and supporting documentation Read and interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications, and details Coordinate with contractors, project managers, engineers, and other project team members regarding inspection findings and quality requirements Identify and document work that does not conform to project requirements Follow applicable safety requirements, company procedures, and industry standards Lift and transport equipment weighing up to 50 pounds as required Travel throughout the San Francisco Bay Area to support various project sites Minimum Qualifications ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I certification ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector certification Radiation Safety and Nuclear Density Gauge Operator Training Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications Basic math and field calculation skills Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook General knowledge of building codes, construction methods, and inspection procedures Preferred Qualifications ICC certifications in Structural Masonry, Structural Steel and Bolting, Structural Welding, Soils, and/or Spray-Applied Fireproofing AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification Willingness to join Operating Engineers Local Union No. 3 Experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects, including highway, rail, water, airport, or other public works projects Benefits Montez Group, Inc. is a signatory contractor with Operating Engineers Local Union No. 3.
