Internal Position Announcement All Town Employees Director of Building and Housing Inspection Building and Housing Inspection Department Job Overview:
This position performs complex technical and difficult administrative work overseeing and participating in the administration of building and housing code enforcement activities, and other code enforcement activities as assigned. Sample duties include planning, directing and participating in building and housing inspection, code enforcement and plan review activities; coordinating work with Town Manager and other departmental directors; staff supervision; preparing and maintaining appropriate records and files; and preparing reports. Work is performed under general supervision and supervision is exercised over all department personnel.
Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and zoning code enforcement and inspections work. Supervisory experience and progressively responsible code enforcement work are desirable. Consideration will be given to equivalent experience, education, and training. The selected candidate much be a licensed Building Official at time of hire or appointment to the position. Successful completion of the International Code Council Building Inspector Exam and Code Enforcement Exam is required within one year of hire or appointment to the position. Candidates are required to possess a valid driver's license. Incumbents must maintain their required licensures during the course of their employment with the Town.
Work Schedule & Location:
This position is 35 hours per week. This position observes a 4-day work week. The selected candidate will normally work Mondays-Thursdays weekly. The selected candidate will occasionally be required to perform evening, holiday, or weekend work when responding to emergencies that require a Building Official. The work location is the Audrey Beck Municipal Building, 4 South Eagleville Road, Mansfield, CT 06268. This position is anticipated to be vacant on or around January 1, 2027. Salary (7/1/2026): Non-Union (Town Administrators) Grade 24
