Technician II

Lee County Department of Transportation (DOT) is looking for a Technician II who wants to help keep our roads safe and in good condition. In this role, you will work both outside and in the office to check road and path conditions, collect data, and make sure repair and construction work meets county standards. This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys hands-on work, likes solving problems, and wants to support important transportation services in our community. What You Will Do Collect and record roadway and multiuse path data in the field Check road and path conditions and update OCI ratings using set guidelines Use ArcGIS and Cartegraph OMS to review and organize roadway information Respond to pavement-related concerns from the public and document results Inspect road repair, maintenance, and construction work to make sure it follows plans, codes, and standards Review plans at job sites, check work for accuracy, and take photos to document conditions Identify problems or violations and take steps to correct them by reviewing standards and working with staff or contractors Meet with contractors and property owners to discuss project issues and provide guidance Stay informed about current laws, rules, construction methods, and inspection practices Use independent judgment when reviewing roadway conditions and inspection results Operate vehicles, cameras, measuring tools, and computers with standard office software Perform other related duties as assigned What We're Looking For Any combination of education and experience equivalent to: High School Diploma or GED and Two (2) years of roadway inspection experience or closely related, such as: Construction inspection (roads, bridges, infrastructure) Civil engineering support work Surveying or field data collection Public works jobs Utility or site inspection Heavy or roadwork supervision Experience reading and understanding construction plans, standards, or codes Strong attention to detail and good time-management skills The ability to communicate well with staff, contractors, and the public The ability to use computers and software for data entry and documentation Licensing Requirements Valid Florida Class E driver's license with an acceptable driving record CTQP Asphalt Inspector Level I•required or able to obtain within 6 months CTQP Asphalt Inspector Level II•required or able to obtain within 6 months Preferred Skills Three (3) years of roadway inspection experience Two (2) years of experience using Cartegraph Navigator or Cartegraph OMS Two (2) years of experience using ArcGIS or similar GIS software

Work Schedule:
