General Description and Classification Standards:

The Lead Inspector is responsible for conducting lead risk assessments to ensure residential units are free from lead-based paint hazards and that any lead abatement activities have been properly completed in compliance with federal standards. This position plays a critical role in protecting public health by ensuring adherence to HUD and environmental safety regulations. The Lead Inspector operates with a high level of technical expertise and regulatory knowledge and is expected to maintain accurate documentation and reporting.

Supervision Received:

Works under general supervision, receiving directions from program management or environmental leadership. Exercises independent judgement in conducting inspections and assessments in accordance with established guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Conduct lead risk assessments in residential units to identify potential lead hazards. Perform clearance inspections following lead abatement activities to verify compliance with safety standards. Ensure all inspections and assessments meet HUD and Environmental Protection Division (EPD) requirements. Collect environmental samples (e.g., dust, soil, paint) and coordinate laboratory analysis. Prepare detailed reports documenting findings, hazards identified, and recommended corrective actions. Maintain accurate records and ensure timely submission of inspection documentation. Communicate findings to property owners, contractors, and program staff. May perform other duties as assigned.
