Storm Water Inspector Fort Oglethorpe, GA Job Details Full-time $25.18 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Regulatory inspections Outdoor work Maintenance work Routine inspections Collaborating with government agencies Fire codes and regulations Mid-level NPDES Zoning regulations Local building codes Facilities maintenance Full Job Description JOB This position is responsible for educating contractors, sub-contractors, and the general public about various stormwater, building, fire, and zoning codes and ordinances at the local, state, and federal level, as well as enforcing these codes and ordinances.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Enforces and regulates stormwater, zoning, and related codes.

Inspects buildings per standards, codes, and regulations.

Functions as building maintenance when necessary.

Assists with Planning Commission meetings in the absence of the Department Director.

Ensures inspection requirements are met for the city stormwater management program annual report to the EPD.Performs related duties.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Guidelines include NFPA standards, the soil and erosion manual, the stormwater management manual, ADA standards, NPDES permits, international building codes, local ordinances and state zoning laws. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

The work consists of varied inspection-related duties. The safe application of standards and codes, which are subject to change with time, the difficulty of competing priorities, and working with the public contribute to the complexity of the position.

The purpose of this position is to educate contractors, sub-contractors, and the general public about various stormwater, fire, and zoning codes and ordinances at the local, state, and federal level, as well as enforce these codes and ordinances. Successful performance helps ensure both the reduction of ecological impacts on public and private property and public safety. Contacts are typically with various contractors, the Maintenance Department, the Roads/Streets Department, the Water and Sewer Department, the Police Department, the Recreation Department, City Hall administrators and Council members, the Court Clerk, Public Works, and various professional and technical individuals, such as architects, plumbers, and electricians.

Contacts are typically to exchange information and ensure the enforcement of related codes, ordinances, and standards.

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk and intermittently standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.

The work is typically performed in an office, a stockroom or warehouse, and in very noisy places. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, and grease; machinery with moving parts; contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals; outdoors and occasionally cold or inclement weather. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves. The Economic Development Director assigns work in terms of general instructions and spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
