In person Position Overview RJA Engineering is seeking a detail-oriented Construction Inspector / Engineering Technician to join our team in Madisonville, Kentucky. This position is ideal for someone with experience in construction inspection, quality control/quality assurance (QA/QC), field testing, construction observation, or engineering-related field work. The Construction Inspector / Engineering Technician will work primarily in the field observing construction operations and verifying that projects are constructed in accordance with established plans and specifications. Responsibilities may include construction inspection, field testing, documentation, and quality control activities associated with civil, structural, and architectural construction. This is a hands-on position that requires strong attention to detail, good organizational skills, and the ability to work independently in a construction-site environment. Key Responsibilities- Perform field construction inspections and observe construction activities to verify compliance with project plans and specifications.
- Perform or assist with compaction testing and field concrete testing .
- Inspect reinforcement placement and other construction components.
- Inspect wood framing and other construction activities as assigned.
- Observe construction operations and identify potential issues or deviations from plans and specifications.
- Review and interpret civil, structural, and architectural plans and specifications .
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to field inspections and testing.
- Communicate observations and project-related information to appropriate project personnel.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) activities related to construction projects.
- Travel to project sites as required using a company-provided fleet vehicle.
- Perform other construction inspection and engineering technician duties as needed. Required Qualifications & Abilities
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time in weather conditions typical of Western Kentucky.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and remain self-directed with minimal supervision.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- Current driver's license.
- Ability to report to work consistently and on time.
- Ability to work a typical Monday-Friday schedule, generally between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
- Willingness to work occasional extended hours or weekends when project needs require it.
- Computer literacy and the ability to use programs within the Microsoft Office Suite .
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check. Preferred Qualifications The following experience, certifications, and skills are preferred but are not required :
- At least 1 year of construction inspection experience .
- Experience with construction observation, QA/QC, field inspection, or construction testing.
- Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, and architectural plans and specifications.
- Current or prior American Concrete Institute (ACI) certification .
- Current or prior Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification .
