Job Summary:
A Sanitation Enforcement Inspector inspects residential and commercial properties in Baltimore City to enforce various City Codes and Ordinances, including health, housing, sanitation, building, fire, and related codes. This role is focused on ensuring proper sanitation and sanitary maintenance of properties in both residential and non-residential areas. The work involves identifying violations, issuing citations, and referring violations to other city agencies when necessary. Employees in this class do not have supervisory responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional work week. Work is performed in various City neighborhoods where such conditions as the seasonal extremes of weather, dogs, rodents, insects and deteriorating structures may be encountered. The work involves continuous standing and walking.Minimum Qualifications:

Have a high school diploma or GED certification.AND Experience:
Have two years of experience performing customer service duties.OR Equivalency Notes:
Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates:
Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit.PROVISIONAL DRIVER'S LICENSE OR LEARNER PERMITS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. NOTE
YOUMUST UPLOAD A COPY OF YOUR VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE WITH APPLICATION AT TIME OF APPLYING.
- Certification by the Police Commissioner of Baltimore City is required within six months of appointment. Employees in this class must hold and maintain valid certification. The certification process includes a criminal background check of the applicant.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of persons. Ability to understand Baltimore City building, housing, health and related codes pertaining to the code requirements for the exteriors of residential and non-residential properties. Ability to inspect property and determine code violations Ability to perform independently. Ability to respond quickly and effectively Ability to stay calm and professional in dealing with citizens who are in violation of codes. Ability to utilize the computer, proprietary business software and other common business software packages to prepare clear and concise reports and to maintain appropriate records. Ability to write in a clear and concise manner. Ability to give testimony in hearings against violators. Background Check Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointments to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed. Probation All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation. Eligibility Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final. Education Accreditation Applicants' education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Selection Process All candidates indicating the minimum qualifications on their applications will be placed on the eligible list without further examination. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. It is essential, therefore, that you give complete and accurate information on your application. Examination Process Applicants must provide sufficient information on their application to show that they meet the minimum qualifications for this recruitment. Successful applicants will be placed on the employment certified eligible list for at least six months. The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete supplemental questions to further examine specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities of the position.
