Job Description

Anne Arundel County Government is currently hiring for a full-time permanent, safety- sensitive License Inspector position in the Office of Inspections and Permits. Employees in this class are responsible for inspecting, issuing, and enforcing compliance with local laws, codes, and regulations governing County license requirements.
NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK
Work involves inspecting and licensing mobile home parks, multiple dwellings, dealers, and installations, licensing taxicab owners, drivers, and taxicabs, inspection and licensing of arcades, and conducting random inspections. There is considerable contact with contractors, owners, and the public on the interpretation of laws and regulations, and the investigation of complaints. Work is performed under general supervision, within established codes, regulations, and technical guidelines, and is reviewed by the supervisor through conferences and reports. Employees in this class are exposed to a variety of weather conditions and on occasion may be exposed to antagonistic persons. The work sites to be inspected may be dirty, noisy, and dusty.(

They are not intended to include all of the essential functions of all positions in the class.) Conducts physical inspections as assigned. Inspections include mobile homes, taxis, tow trucks, amusements, vendors, trade contractors, unattended donation boxes, licensed businesses and other inspections as needed. Receives license applications, supporting documentation and monetary payment for license processing. Investigates complaints and problems by conducting investigations of the facts and when necessary, issues violations following County laws and regulations. Provides customer service and waits on the public. Reviews and investigates license applications and conducts follow-up with applicants to complete applications. Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports. Performs data entry, filing, and related work as assigned. Ability to stand and drive for long periods of time. Performs work in an office setting. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the laws and regulations governing licensing in Anne Arundel County. Knowledge of the State of Maryland licensing laws. Knowledge of the geography of the County and ability to use maps. Ability to enforce regulations. Ability to use a computer to track licensing activities and use mapping applications (Geocortex and County view and other related software). Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to safely operate a county vehicle in the performance of job duties and responsibilities.
Education:
Graduation from high school.
Experience :
Two (2) or more years of experience in the field of governmental licensing or regulatory authority; and a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
NOTE:
This position is Safety Sensitive and employees in this position are subject to Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and Alcohol Testing. Preference will be given to applicants with the following: Experience with data entry and administrative tasks. Experience prioritizing and performing multiple tasks. Experience performing inspections for adherence to policies, rules and regulations.
