About This Job You protect our community by ensuring that every structure stands safe and secure. As our Building Inspector, you safeguard the public by verifying that construction projects follow established safety standards and local laws. You review plans, visit job sites, and confirm that builders follow the correct path from groundbreaking to final approval. Your work prevents hazards, ensures structural integrity, and supports sustainable community growth. Job Duties and Responsibilities Evaluates construction sites to confirm compliance with Building Codes and safety regulations. Reviews architectural designs using Plan Reading and Blueprint Reading to spot issues before construction begins. Applies Zoning Laws to ensure that property usage matches municipal guidelines. Manages the Permitting process by issuing approvals and tracking project phases. Conducts Risk Assessment activities to identify potential hazards and prevent structural failures. Performs Quality Assurance checks on materials and building methods. Maintains strict standards of Occupational Health and Safety across all active job sites. Writes detailed inspection logs and Report Writing documents for municipal records and legal compliance. Collaborates with contractors and project leaders through effective Construction Management practices to resolve compliance issues. Required Qualifications Education Holds a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have ICC Commercial Building Inspector, Building Plans Examiner, and Residential Building Inspector Certifications or the ability to get these certifications within one year of employment. Also must have a valid Missouri Driver's License. Experience Demonstrates three to five years of hands-on experience in construction, code enforcement, or structural inspection. Navigates complex construction projects from the planning stage to completion. Knowledge/Skills Possesses deep understanding of Building Codes , Zoning Laws , and Occupational Health and Safety standards. Interprets complex schematics through expert Plan Reading and Blueprint Reading skills. Manages documentation through clear and concise Report Writing . Executes Risk Assessment protocols with precision and fairness. Preferred Qualifications Holds ICC Commercial Building Inspector, Building Plans Examiner, and Residential Building Inspector Certifications. Physical Requirements/Work Conditions Walks across uneven terrain and active construction sites on a daily basis. Climbs ladders, scaffolding, and stairs to inspect elevated structures and roofs. Lifts and carries safety gear and inspection tools weighing up to 25 pounds. Endures various weather conditions during outdoor site inspections.
