This position will report to the Manager, Utilities. Applicant must be familiar with regional providers of electric, gas, telecommunications, petroleum, water, and sewer utility services in the Charlotte metropolitan area; must be familiar with NCDOT procedures and preferences for coordination of utility relocations; and must be familiar with the application of those procedures and preferences to civil infrastructure projects. Previous experience with SCDOT projects is a plus. Essential Function As a Utility Coordinator you will: Assist with the interpretation of highway construction plans, drainage layouts, specifications to identify utility impacts Schedule and conduct utility meetings with clients, utility owners and contractors Prepare meeting agendas and minutes Proficiently and professionally communicate technical information Work closely with design professionals to optimize and minimize utility conflicts Determine cost responsibility (prior rights) and assist utility owners with preparation of utility agreements, relocation plans, and relocation schedules Assist with the preparation of environmental permit drawings and narratives Attend field meetings and site investigations as required Effectively plan, manage, and coordinate multiple work assignments Use computer-aided drafting and design software to develop and produce drawings Participate in project risk analysis and meetings to evaluate utility risks Occasional overnight travel will be required Ability to use personal vehicle on a reimbursement basis for business purposes Required Skills and Experience High school diploma Advanced education in a technical discipline and/or a college degree is desirable. Minimum of Five (5) years of Utility Coordination, Utility Relocation or Similar Experience Knowledge of mathematics and experience in the application of engineering and construction standards, surveying, and utility locating. Previous familiarity with environmental permitting, rights-of-way requirements, and safety standards and practices. Basic knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD. Familiarity with OpenRoads is a plus.
