The primary purpose of the Mechanical/Plumbing Inspector is to perform on-site inspection of mechanical/plumbing installations in New Mexico. The Mechanical/Plumbing Inspector will ensure that mechanical/plumbing installation in residential, commercial and public buildings conform to the current adopted mechanical/plumbing codes and standards and the provisions of the Construction Industries Licensing Act. Through enforcement, the Mechanical/Plumbing Inspector will protect the life, health, safety, and property of the citizens of New Mexico. This position is primarily to provide inspection services to San Miguel, Mora, Harding, Mora, and Union counties. How does it get done? Organization of daily schedules for maximum efficiency and minimum travel, researching and familiarization of current codes as they apply to conducting field inspections to protect life and property of New Mexico residents. Communicating daily with supervisor, contractors, homeowners, architects, and engineers as well as fellow inspectors from CID bureaus as necessary to ensure properly permitted, licensed and code compliant installations. Also, providing assistance in other inspection areas when determined necessary. Must be able to regularly/daily operate a provided state vehicle for purposes of essential travel to/from inspection sites and other locations as necessary to carry out the duties of the position. Minimum Qualification If not already certified in a specialty as set out below, each Inspector must pass the examination of a national certifying organization recognized by the Construction Inspection Division within one (1) year of employment; and each Inspector must then remain certified by such certifying organization in at least one (1) of the following specialties:

Mechanical Trades, Plumbing, Gas Fitting:

three (3) years of journeyman and/or foreman level experience; OR two (2) years of experience as a Construction Inspector. Applicants for a Mechanical Inspector position may substitute technical, university, or college training in a mechanical or electrical field for up to two (2) years of the three (3) years of journeyman or foreman level experience. The equivalency shall be calculated such that one (1) year of technical, university or college training shall equal one-half (1/2) a year of journeyman or foreman-level experience. Further, in conjunction with the technical, university or college training, the applicant must demonstrate at least one (1) year of related field experience in their trade as a journeyman. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid defensive driver's certificate and driver's license. Must be able to pass a preemployment background check. Working Conditions Incumbent will move about construction job sites in all types of weather and conditions to include, at times, extensive drive time, climbing ladders, navigating through ditches and trenches and avoiding hazards typically related to construction job sites. The incumbent must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Work is performed using a personal computer for extended periods. Must be able to regularly/daily operate a provided state vehicle for purposes of essential travel to/from inspection sites and other locations as necessary to carry out the duties of the position.
