Role :
We are seeking an experienced Construction Inspector to support one of our client's construction projects in
Long Island, NY Role & Responsibilities:
The Inspector will be responsible for monitoring construction activities and ensuring that all work complies with MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) requirements, contract documents, safety standards, and quality plans.
Key responsibilities include:
Inspect and verify the completion of surface preparation and bridge painting activities at project sites. Monitor construction work to confirm compliance with approved plans, contract specifications, shop drawings, work plans, and applicable LIRR procedures and guidelines. Read and interpret construction plans, drawings, specifications, and other contract documents. Review contractors' monthly submissions for accuracy and completeness. Coordinate with Senior Field Inspectors to review third-party contractor and consultant invoices and verify that requested payments align with the progress of the work. Prepare accurate daily inspection reports in accordance with the Manual for Uniform Record Keeping requirements and maintain complete documentation of work performed, site conditions, workforce, equipment, and construction progress. Immediately notify the appropriate personnel of incidents, deficiencies, delays, safety concerns, or other issues requiring prompt attention. Ensure that construction activities are performed safely, efficiently, and productively in accordance with the applicable Safety Plan and Quality Plan requirements. Use the designated Project Management Information System (PMIS) and electronic filing system in accordance with LIRR policies and procedures. Coordinate LIRR flag protection required for third-party contractors working on or near active railroad facilities. Assist with planning and coordinating track outages, foul time, and other railroad access requirements necessary to perform construction activities. Travel between alternate project sites as needed and provide immediate updates to MTA personnel during urgent situations. Safely navigate active construction and railroad environments, including inclined embankments, train tracks, ballast areas, elevated or lifted work platforms, and other physically challenging site conditions. Attend MTA Roadway Worker Protection training and maintain all required certifications throughout the duration of the task order. Perform additional inspection, documentation, coordination, and project-support duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum of three years of relevant experience in bridge painting, construction, and inspection. Experience working in railroad operations is preferred. Valid Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) Coatings Inspector Program Level I (CIP Level I) certification or Bridge Coatings Inspector Level I (BCI Level I) certification. Maintain all required professional certifications throughout the duration of the task order. OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety training completed within the past five years. Minimum of three years of experience verifying the completion of construction work. Experience performing visual and physical inspections of surface cleaning, surface preparation, and coating-system installation in accordance with AMPP requirements. Ability to read and interpret contract specifications and construction plans, including containment and Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) drawings. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Teams, Word, and Excel. Possession of a valid driver's license.
